Default Radar Detection / Laser Defense System for the XE

As has been noted in many posts, windshield mount radar detection units do not work well in the Jaguar XE due to interference from the Solar Attenuating Glass used in the front windshield that blocks RF signals.

After extensive research, I believe I've settled on the AL Priority remote system for my XE.

It looks like the two main industry contenders with the latest technology updates were the Escort 360 ($2900.00 front radar only) and the Al Prority with netradar front option ($1500.00 front radar only) Both have GPS lockout.

Netradar has better filtering against the Radar assisted cruise control and blindspot monitoring interference from other vehicles, and you don't have to pay each year to have access to the Escort Database. Escort only sells the 360 as an installed unit through Escort Delaers only...and I want to do most of the install myself.

I've looked at redenso as well, but they also don't have the latest filtering.

Anyone know of anything better out there? I'll post pictures of the install after completed...should be two or three weeks from now...

I, just like many of you, think that speed limits are incredibly low in the US.

I have used several different types of radar detectors in the past and they have saved me from a lot of trouble. Escort 8500 has been very reliable for me.

However, I personally feel like several thousand $ worth of radar detectors are not the best investment out there.
I do have a coworker who has that same system in his Range Rover Sport SVR.

If you blast by a hidden cop car at 120mph while everyone else is doing 70, he/she will chase you anyway and pull you over 90% of the time. Whether he/she can prove anything is another story

I personally use the combination of driving fast only at night, using Waze and high beams to check ahead for any possible hideouts for cops

I agree - ALP is the best laser jammers for you. Stinger VIP is the only alternative if you live in DALA country, but it is quite expensive.

ALP Setup Guide Part 1: Why AntiLaser Priority? » Vortex Radar

As for the Radar head I have a Radenso HD+. It has much better range than NetRadar, and if LEOs don't use K band where you live you can a) decrease sensitivity or b) turn off K band altogether.

ALP set up allows you to have up to 3 different profiles (with HiFi module) and each profile can have 3 different K and X sensitivity levels.

But of course pick what's best for you.

Here is a link to an RD forum just in case - tons of info.

Demetre, at this point it is more like a hobby for me. I'm absolutely positive that XE is not a good investment either (10 years old clunker is much more prudent investment), yet here we are - discussing our Jags

My V1 did pay for itself 10 times over...conservatively. And I was able to easily sell it after using it for 8 years for $400 to help fund this project. (It was updated last year.)

I agree it's a lot of money, but looked at over a long period of time it could and probably will pay for itself (not just by avoiding fines...but also avoiding the higher insurance rates that come with them.) And this car is a very special ride to me, so I don't mind spending some money to make it a better highway tool.

I personally consider a radar detection system a better investment than upgrading the meridian sound system, or opting for the leather package, or getting the "S' package for $10K more, for instance....

I do not regularly set the cruise control on 120. My tactics usually involve getting some other speeder to play the "Rabbit" , and I will hang about a half mile back and let him get all the pop radar and laser hits, allowing me the time to react.

Finally, in Texas, it is a very bad idea to speed at night as we have a wild boar overpopulation and a deer overpopulation problem all over the state...and the best radar detector in the world won't help you miss one of those....as with many decisions in life common sense is your best defense.

here is a link to wild boar damage..ugly stuff. http://www.britishwildboar.org.uk/in...accidents.html

And there are 1.5 MILLION deer accidents in the USA each year. http://www.car-accidents.com/deer-ca...accidents.html

And I run WAZE on any long trips too...

As for Netradar vs Radenso HD+, they both have really good range, but I've read the filtering is way better on netradar (it has an advanced circuit specific to BSM filtering) and I'd gladly give up 5-10 pct range for far fewer false signals. And the BSM interference is going to get exponentially worse and worse as years march on...
