Default 2009 XF gear selector

Working on a XF gear selector system which got damaged, a used one ordered from ebay arrived today, fixed to the car, but it's locked at reverse and the selector is loose.
other problem is when the engine is started, the selector does not shoot up automatically, moreover, the gear indicator lights are blinking.

Is it normal the selector shoot up while not connected in operation?

Attached photos for reference and support judgement.

How should we solve these issues?
Kindly help
