2015 XF help!
I wouldn't trust dealers.
Diff cover has to be removed (if it has a cover)to diagnose.)
Whole differential is [probably 300-500 from ebay.
Was it the same dealer who told you it had to be replaced?
Are you talking about the front, rear, or central differential?
Can you add some heavier weight oil to quiet it down?
Have you read the repair manual?
Have you consulted an independent mechanic?

If it was my car, I would find a good used one to replace it with. There’s really no special tools to replace the assembly with other than tools that I have as far as torx and etorx sockets and the equipment to hold the vehicle in the air and support stands for holding the suspension to break everything loose. I’ll look the job up and see what all should be needed to do the job if you’d like.
Right. So if you wanted to try and tear it down and rebuild it, then yes. Dealer tools are necessary. If that’s what you want to do, I can give you every number for each tool and exactly what to do. I tried to build those a few times and it was just a nightmare. It was for me anyway. But as rarely as those go out, I would just get a used one and it’ll probably last a long time. So long as the pinion seal or output shaft seals don’t leak.
Any updates on your research?
As a prospective x260 owner it is a full stop sale as I read about your possible diff failure so soon!
1. How many miles on your 2015 car? (x250)
2. You are the 1st, 2nd or 3rd owner?
3. '15 4-cyl XF's were only rear wheel drive in US. True?
(And, No such thing as a fwd Jag thank God)
4. Certified extended warranty or only the factory 50k original? Now over mileage/Expired?
5. Original diff and fluid?
6. Do you race or autocross your xf?
7. What was the symptom that caused you to first seek dealer help? Noise / leak?

Thanks for the complete response and again so sorry for the diff issues.
If $3800 is appropriate, then approx $2100 is labor as the diff runs $1700:

My question would center on whether changing the diff fluid first is a reasonable first step remedy to eliminate the whine.
If not, a diff failure after just 70k of a non-abused rwd car is super troubling for Jaguar to shed their age-old durability concerns.

Also..
I just checked with 2 local Indy shops here in Richmond, VA.
Both quoted Mitchell's/AllData times of just 4.4 hours to replace a rear Jaguar diff on x260 and x351... @ $100 hour.
And they will both install Jaguar OEM parts that I have shipped there.
Add shop items, diff fluid and expendables of $200.
So..
$1700 + $500 + $200 = $2400ish..
Versus $3,800 at dealer.
Same 12 month oem parts warranty.
Thoughts?

Wow that’s not bad in price ! I went to several around New Jersey . Few said they won’t touch a jag and another said a special tool was needed . I went to 2 different Jaguar dealers both said diff is bad. They don’t know what caused it either . They are picking it up tomorrow and dropping off a loaner. He gave me a discount of 3600. I’m just gonna get it done and over with . He assured me whining noise will be gone . They are removing while assembly and replacing it and new fluid . Said will be a week or so .
Glad you're getting a price reduction but sorry for the fail.
In my searches internet-wide, I haven't come across diff failures in a Jag so young.
Please do post here once complete including the parts/labor invoice. Will be anxious to see it!
