I bought my XF in January 2024. I am really really enjoying my car.
But, I messed up and now I have a small dent on the trunk of my car. I showed it to local auto shops here and they gave me a quote. The dent has led to a break on the paint It is a small area but it seems like it definitely needs repainting.
Now, my question is about the repainting. The auto shop has offered that they can fix the dent and repaint (the emblems will be replaced).
So,
How good the repainting job is?
Will it be the same exact paint that Jaguar used to paint the car originally?
If not, how close it would be to the original color?
I really really like to know more about the quality of the paint that the auto shop will use. When the job is done (fixing the dent + painting), will anyone be able to find the dent?
The auto shop guy said this about the paint they use:We will get the paint color off of the VIN and we (just like every shop) mix our own paintAttached are a couple of photos that I took for my records.
Shop around. Don't commit to one Paint and Body Work Shop. There's a paint code which matches the color of your vehicle . Maaco have several outlets nationwide but it all depends on their workers, there are that do professional work and there are workers that are sloppy. The emblem can stay by putting a painters tape on top of it. Mom and Pop shops are good too especially if the owner paints the car. Whatever the outcome, there is no match to the robotic paint job from the factory. Just make sure the final process ends up with clear coat paint to it

I've had luck with small dents and scratches by doing it myself. The paint can be matched in a spray can from the internet. The dent can be fixed without filling/sanding by using paintless dent repair. Fix dent. Mask off area around dent as close to where the paint is missing as possible. Spray undercoat/color. Mask again slightly overlapping edge of undercoat . Spray clear coat. You will always know where the repair is. No one else will unless you show them.
I am not a body shop nor do I ever claim to be the smartest man in the forum, but here are my observations rec'ds based on my oopsies over the years with my many vehicles. Find a body shop that is of higher end repairs and has the ability to create a small sample spray out card to better assist in color matching your specific car. If the auto has metallics in the formula, you really want a body shop that can spray it out correctly, otherwise it will look off in comparison to other areas. Most higher end shops will want to not do a clear coat blend, but will/should clear coat the entire trunk lid/deck, this is a point that others might contest. Auto body work on aluminum panels takes in my opinion a better shop. I have had great success in using my local Cadillac auto body shop as the crew are better trained on the tri stage paints and in my experience really have knocked my repairs out of the park. My last purchase of a quart of decent auto paint for a door and hood repaint was well over 200 for base coat and clear top coats. The costs of materials is not inexpensive! Just my 2 cents spend it how you want
