Default Differential balance block/vibration damper

Does anyone know what the unit bolted onto the back of the differential does exactly? Its called a differential vibration damper or balance block.

What are the implications of driving without it attached?

Are the bolts it sits on able to be replaced without causing an oil leak on the diff?

One of my bolts has corroded and sheared and i need to replace it, wondering how i can identify the part number and is it ok to drive without it?

Thanks.

Looks like this:

Jaguar and others have used this for decades. Sometimes a weight is hung off the transmission too. As you posted it's just for vibration control and without it you might feel more dive line vibration.
Now how much more is uncertain and if Jaguar paid to put this on I think I would replace it in the future. But it's not a mandatory thing?
I think you could run with out it if you want?
