Default Using USB to play mp3's

Hi, I have a 2015 XF and I copied my mp3's on a usb stick (Fat32 filesystem), to play them in the car. However, when I insert the USB, the system detects the USB and the song but immediately gives an error saying that this file cannot be played. After that, if I press the help button it displays a message saying something like "Either the file is not supported or does not have the required permission"....

Would appreciate some assistance

Did you format the drive first? I have no problem with mp3/USB playing in my car. There have been several threads on this topic with some going down the path of drive manufacturer being the problem.

What bitrate are your files? There are entries in other Jaguar forums that indicate anything above 256K will not play. Try resampling a few of your songs and see if they will play. FYI there are quite a few entries about MP3 and USB issues in the F-Type forum (X152). The max bitrate information came from that forum. If changing the bitrate does not resolve your problem, do a search over there.

I just converted a file to 320kbps and it played ok. Once you copied the files to the usb drive did you test it on your computer? Where did you copy the files from?

It means nothing because you guys are talking about two different ICT generations. His system might not be able to play 320kbps file eventjough yours can.

I would go through standard debugging process eliminating one issue at a time. Delete all songs but one and try to play it. If it doesn't make sure that it is in the root and its name isn't too long. Also that it doesn't have any special characters. And of course resample it to 128 kbps. If this helps try to sample it higher to find its limit. Also avoid variable bitrate

Also try to use wav format. Theoretically it is supported as well, and it doesn't use complex codecs.

No reason for them to be different ..... mp3 is mp3. Maybe if the OP gave us some feedback what's been tried so far we could help more.

Mp3 is indeed an mp3, but the FW in his ICT might not have codecs to process higher bitrates. After all his hardware is a previous generation. X250...

You know, you could be right. I assumed that it's X250 because X260 started with 16MY. In states....

The OP might be from Europe though... OP, could you please confirm the generation of your XF?
