2.0 Turbo Troubles
Just heard back from my Indy Jag repair shop and they tell me I have serious problems with my engine. The car went in Restricted Performance Mode and was showing a misfire on cylinder 3. I tried changing the spark plugs and coil pack on the cylinder with no luck. The shop discovered puddles of oil sitting on top of the piston in #3 with a borescope. They then proceeded to perform an upper and lower smoke test on the engine found no passage into the combustion chamber when applied to the upper areas but found smoke entering around (and possibly through) the piston #3 when the smoke was introduced into the crankcase. They also performed pressure draw down test on all four cylinders and the others (1,2 and 4) held pressure, dry and smokeless. Evidently the pressure applied in #3 bled to 0 fast. So the shop believes it to be either bad rings, a cracked piston or possibly a cracked cylinder wall. So my questions are the following:
1. Has anyone ever experienced or heard of anything like this before?
2. Does anyone have any idea how this could happen on a 30,000 mile motor as my wife drives like a church mouse?
3. Is it feasible or economic to just pull the head and open the lower end to replace this piston or should I just source another used engine and do a full R and R?
I hate the thoughts of tossing a complete motor just for a bad piston but with the labor
costs of pulling the head off (11 hours) and then adding in the hours to open the bottom end it may be cheaper to do so.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Sorry to hear about your issues. Are you out of warranty - I thought the 2.0 would still be covered (when was yours registered)?
Have you tried talking to Jag - always a possibility they might work with you on it - and they will likely know if this is common (although they may not tell that to you...)

The car is a 2013 model so it would be out of warranty anyways but to add to it this was a salvage car that I brought back from the death bed. From what I have heard Jaguar loses all interest in performance of the vehicle once salvaged...... even though my wife has been driving it for the last 20K miles! I suppose it might be worth the phone call to elicit a response for the record.
Thanks for the commiseration though as I feel I am being beat with the "Jaguar Stick" at the moment. LOL :,(
