Default 2010 XF Premium - oil change questions

Did anyone do it at a private shop - not at the dealer? Can we do this outside the dealer - lets say at a private shop specializing in british cars...(just to save money on the second service - the first is supposedly provided for free)
How many US qts. does it take to fill up with the filter at oil change?
I understand we have to use this:castrol SLX professional oe 5w-20
Can she really go 15,000 miles between oil changes?

The sump is 6.5 liters which is nearly 7 US quarts.

The oil change interval is 10,000 miles (16,000 km), in Canada at least, or one year maximum time between changes.

We must have the dealer perform all service to ensure the warranty remains valid. US laws vary.

Since the private service guy will have to buy the new drain plug required from the dealer I doubt you'll save much. Good luck with any engine related warranty claim if you choose this option...not economically sensible.

are you aware the oil is sucked out with an oil evacuation system through the tube you see in the oil fill opening in the cam cover? It is measured when evacuated and the same refilled and then the oil level checked and service interval reset without starting the car. Or you have to wait a minimum of 5 minutes before you can access it again. I wouldn't play around with TRYING to find someone that knows what theyre doing to save a few $$$

Thanks, I thought as much but was checking just in case. This is my first time with a Jag, or any of the other 'sealed' engines. I have been driving Infiniti's for the last 18 years until now (1991 Q45, 2003 M45, 2007 G35X). With Infiniti, I could service them anywhere.

Default Tire Rotation anyone?

My 2010 XF Premium has the 19" wheels. The owners manual does not call for tire rotation. I asked the dealer and he said: We check at first service (15,000 miles) and if the fronts are worn more than the rear by a certain %, then we recommend rotating them.
Isn't 15,000 miles too late? this is a heavy high performance car. What do you guys recommend, so I can get the most out of these (expensive) tires besides checking tire pressure of course....

Default I was wondering what that pipe was just inside of the oil fill hole! Thanks Brutal.

Figured out last night that I can turn on the radio w/o the ignition on, still wish it would say on when I turn off the engine though.

I did not see anything in the handbook about rotating the tires either, but since they are all the same size (I looked for this purpose), I will be rotating mine at each 10k service.

Whoops, in North America we still got the 4.2 engine in the base model which has the traditional dipstick and drain plug. The Premium and XFR models got the 5.0 for 2010. I understand that this has the electronic oil level and no dipstick.

Just for anyone interested in changing your own oil, Normal Mobil 1 5W-20 states that it meets the specification called for in the XF owners manual. Available at your local Wallyworld for $21 for 5 quarts!

make sure that mobil 1 is the same spec as castrol SXL 5w-20. if you have a internal engine problem and your not using castrol oil made for this engine. say bye bye to warrenty. 2011 no more 4.2L V8. also like BRUTAL said. oil life has to be reset so the message goes off and only dealer scan tool can reset it.

also the oil is suck out not drained. notic picture. testing how it works on a demo.

The back of the bottle of Mobil 1 5W-20 specifically says:
"Meets the requirements of :
-Ford WSS-M2C925-A"

On page 187 of the 2010 XF owners manual it states:
"Use only 5W-20 engine oil, meeting specification WSS M2C925-A.
Jaguar recommends: Castrol SLX Professional OE 5W-20"

Not sure how much more clear it can get. This is not Nuclear Engineering.

I know this an old subject..but I found this video and it is funny they start out with a Jag XF and ended up on another car...very confusing for the novice..but I thought it was funny anyway..

Oil & Filter Change Jaguar XF (2009-2013) - 2009 Jaguar XF Luxury 4.2L V8

On the subject..Is there a drain plug at all on the XF? and if there is, will it drain 100% of all the oil?

Thanks for the patience and tolerance on this subject.

This is for any one of our revered JagTechs

I know this an old subject..but I'm curious is all..if you don't mind..

..Is there a drain plug at all on the oil pan of the XF?
and if there is, will it drain 100% of all the oil, less of course what may be still in the oil filter? (the 2012 specifically)

Thanks for the patience and tolerance on this subject.

I am told there is a drain plug and the sump will empty if it is removed.

Yep, as per the other thread, I have changed my oil twice using the sump drain plug.
So there is definitely such a plug on a 3.0D, not so sure about 3.0 V6 petrol, 2.0 petrol, 2.2D or any of the V8s though, but I suspect they all have.
I remember reading somewhere that the 2.7D has only a sump drain plug and does not have the 'suction tube'.

Well, figuring that I don't have a JAG dealer within a few thousand miles from my city, I have to do the oil changes myself. I have not done an oil change yet. But when I do, I will post pics and instructions.

What will you use for oil? will you try and get the jaguar version or try something else?

I have the Castrol as specified by Jaguar. But I am going to try the Mobil 1 with the same specs.

As I think my free oil changes are done I am thinking I will attempt to DIY it - Just cant justify $250 for just an oil change yet.

Picked this oil up on ebay for $40 for 6 quarts (bought 18 so I'm good for 2 changes). Looks to be the right stuff. Also picked up an oil filter $21.64 and drain plug $7.48 for the 5.0. Once it warms up a bit I'll give it a go.

Can someone confirm something for me? I have a 2010 5.0. Can i change the oil myself by removing a drain plug or do i need to continue paying the dealership? I've read conflicting stories about it needing to be extracted due to no drain plug and people saying there is one. thanks
