Is a 2010 XFR with 80,000 miles a money pit?
Hey Guys
I currently drive a 2008 BMW 335xi and I'm really tempted by the low pricing I've seen on the 2010-2012 XFR's.
A friend of mine sells high end used vehicles and is trying to convince me that an XFR is a money pit and that I will go bankrupt maintaining it. He even had one of the tech's that he worked with call me and try to talk me out of it, saying the superchargers go out and cost $5000-$7000CAD to replace, etc. I know that jags of 15-20 years ago were pretty bad, but I've read a bit on the XFR's and they seem to be at least on par with BMW and mercedes.
Would be interested to hear from owners on here with higher mileage XFR's.

Superchargers and turbos are normal wear items, so they eventually will need to be rebuilt or replaced. Normally aspirated will have issues too. 500+ horse power is not easy, no matter how you make it. Add to that a complex chassis to keep that power streetable and the maintenance cost rise, but the Jags cost are on par with BMW, AUDI,MB,PORSCHE,MASERATI and TESLA.
I bought mine with about 70K miles on it. It's a 2011 XFR. Overall I've been very pleased with it. It's my first "higher end" car. I paid some serious coin for an extended warranty. Just over 15% of the purchase price however I'm covered for 5 Years or an additional 60K miles on pretty much everything that would be costly to replace. I would suggest you do the same if it's an option. In the last 2 years of ownership I've had to change the fuel pump under warranty. About 1K with labour. The rest has been basic maintenance, oil, brakes. I sleep better at night with the warranty and it played a big role in my decision to move forward with the purchase. I've been exposed to some fast cars and frankly I love my Jag. There's no replacement for displacement. I'm always impressed with how much it pulls in higher gears. There are some issues that will need to be looked at. Sunroof rattling, bent rim "very common" but overall I've been very satisfied. For the price, in my opinion you are getting a lot of car for the money especially at that mileage. Keep your expectations in check. You will likely sink at least 2k in the car off the bat. Tires, brakes, oil change, differential oil change, trans oil change "even though they say it is not necessary". It's not cheap to keep on the road but no car with 500+HP is. Good luck....
Purchased my 2010 XFR used in 2010. It now has 80k miles on it.
Maintenance is expensive (a set of tires will set you back at least $2k). The only major issue I've had is the differential quitting, which was replaced under warranty. The leather dash can be an issue; the leather eventually shrinks and breaks loose from the glue causing bubbling. Replacement is pricey at about $2k with labor, but some members have reported having theirs refurbished at a good upholstery shop.
Cheers, Will

Aftermarket warranty is a good idea for peace of mind for the big items. Just in case. Otherwise I'd find a good indy and assume that there will be some repairs needed just like on any high end car
