Default 2011 Xfr engine noise , is this normal?

Hey guys ! I usually don't post on XFR forums since I deal mostly with an XK XKr and mostly 4.2 cars .
I had my first Xfr that came in for an ECU tune. Car is 2011 , 77k miles. There is no cel lights but engine does not sound all that great especially right after the start, oil level was slightly low, I added half a quart to it. The guy just recently bought the car so does not know the history or if it needs an oil change even, judging by the condition of interior the car hasn't been taken care of the best.
You guys let me know what it sounds like. I made a short video. Maybe potential issues with the timing chain?

Oof, I wouldn't say that was normal. These engines with direct fuel injection can definitely sound "tappy" with the hood up due to the high-pressure fuel injection, but this is another level. Can you hear it in the cabin?

I wouldn't want to drive that hard (especially with a tune) until that noise has been identified.

You could try removing the supercharger belt and idling it to rule out the coupler, but personally I think that's unlikely - that sounds (at best) like timing gear and (at worst) maybe a bottom end noise of some description, which is always bad. Hard to tell from the sound - nothing wrong with your vid, it's just always hard to tell I find - but it sounds like there's a fairly severe knock there.

Sad to hear about this noise ...I had the same if not similar noise and was not diagnosed properly. I (luckily) had the engine replaced under warranty by JLR and my engine was a 2012 5.0. Even on the new engine i had similar sounds coming but went away. I change my oil twice a year now and use the highest octane fuel..i haven't heard the sound in years.

When changing my old engine they didn't tell me what was wrong the Mechanics stated low engine oil pressure and JLR approved the replacement.

My noise was on idle and can hear with windows down. Inside the car while driving you could not hear it due to sound isolation....but you can imagine how embarrassing it is driving that car around in the summer sounding like something is wrong with it and having a jaguar badge.

Check out this video on youtube. Check the comments for peoples solutions:

Here are some comments from the video that might help but are not guaranteed:
- Timing Chain slack due to tensioner (since you are not familiar with the 5.0 engines, they all have timing chain issues prior to 2013 engine builds).
- "if it's the 5.0 supercharged then I had a similar issue. turned out to be supercharger bearings and they replaced that and it went away
- "Water pump or chain guides" - NOTE : In my case the mechanics changed the water pump but did not fix the noise i was getting.
-"VVT!!!!! It’s the VVT I’m getting this replaced for the second time. We isolated it to that and it’s expensive to fix!"

-"replaced the belt tensioner and seemed to fix i"
- Prevention: "Oil change at 3000 miles oil change at 3000 miles only use high octane fuel change diffrential oil every 30000 miles only use jaguar spec oil. Change air filters every 50 this car is a thoroughbred cant treat it like a pack muel."
-"This is a Variable Valve Timing Unit on top of the engine going bad. Especially if it goes away after driving 5-10 minutes." "replace the 2 VVT banks (might as well replace them both) along with tensioners and new chain"
