I desperately need help with an issue I am having on my 2012 XF V-8. While driving down the road, the car will suddenly have the check engine light come on and will then shut off the car completely. When I pull over and try to restart, the car will turn over but will not start up. After waiting for 10-15 minutes, the car will restart. However, the last time it happened, the car will not restart. Thinking it might be battery related, I installed a brand new Interstate battery to no avail. Has anyone had this experience or know what could be causing this?

 

How about checking the ECU codes?? It's free at any parts store BTW, and beats guessing when the car will literally tell you what's wrong with it.

 

Not sure if thisis your sympton exactly, but If it's stalling when it gets hot and allows you to restart it about 15 minutes later after the engine cools off a little, you may want to look at replacing the crankshaft position sensor. This happened on our mercedes all the time. Its a hall sensor and when it goes bad, the heat messes with the voltage to the sensor and it confuses the ecu so it shuts down. After it cools off, it will restart, but then stall out again about 5-10 minutes after driving and getting hot again. Not sure where it is located on our XFs. It was a cheap sensor to purchase but a pain in the *** to get to on all the benz engines.
