Default 2013 XF Sportbrake - Audio cutting out when hitting a bump

Hi Folks,

New member here in the North West UK. Love my 2013 XF 3 litre sportbrake but now it’s close to 100 thousand miles on the clock, I’m starting to get a few electrical gremlins.

The stereo is driving me crazy. I hit a bump and lose ALL sound for a second. It happens on all audio. Radio, CD, Bluetooth audio from
phone. It even cuts out audio when on Bluetooth phone calls.

I get no loss of function on the display when it cuts out, no error message. Audio literally cuts for half a second and then cuts back in.

I’m really struggling to work out what it could be.

Please help before I go insane!!!! Hope you’re all well ✌️

D.

Which stereo option does your car have?

Hi, it’s the Meridian system. I don’t think it’s the top of the range sound system. Maybe the middle option.

The car is the portfolio spec.

I would think it’s a loose connection. Start at the amp. Not sure where it is in the wagon but it’s on the left rear fender in the sedans. Get that exposed and grab some wires and give them a jiggle.

I’ve done this already. Amp is in the same place. Unbolted it from the Mount and gave it a good jiggle, everything was fine. I did the same to everything else in that area, still no result.

It’s literally driving me crazy and seems to be worse when the temperature outside is hottest.

Sounds like a loose connection, however the audio is on the fibre MOST ring, a loose connection to any of the devices on the ring will break the loop and it will stop working, so it might not be at the amp. Each device on the loop receives the data packet on the RX channel and relays it to the next device on the ring, so there is also an outside possibility that any one of the MOST connected devices is playing up and breaking the loop or not properly relaying the packets. To check that you probably need to dig about in SDD.

I checked the Bluetooth module whilst I had the amp exposed but I think you’re right, SDD needs checking first.

I’ll get that done next 👌
