So, I'm thinking of replacing my '08 S-Type 4.2 with a X250 XF. My dealer has a '15 Portfolio edition with only 17K miles. It's AWD with the 340 horse motor.
Does anyone have any opinions of the reliability of that engine? I'm familiar with all the discussion of 5.0 issues (water pump, etc.) but I really haven't heard much talk about the 3.0. Is that because the owners of cars with the 3.0 tend not to be as "enthusiastic" as the 5.0 crowd and don't post as much?
Anyway, would love to hear thoughts about the 3.0, the new Jaguar AWD (I was an X-Type owner), or other stuff about a very late model X250.

Hi,
I own a 2000 XF 3.0 SC AWD Portfolio model which was bought new and currently has 18,000 miles on it. February will be 3 years that I have owned this car. The car has been very reliable and the only problems that I encountered were the following;
1) gasoline pumps would constantly shut off while car was being gassed up. My dealer installed a redesigned fuel filler neck and never had the problem again.
2) at 15,000 a low brake warning came on and dealer found a defective right front caliper which had caused pads to wear out prematurely. New calipers, rotors and pads were installed under warranty and no problem since
3) at 16,000 miles my Eco Start/Stop function would not function properly. I am not in love with this feature but felt that since car came with it then it should be working properly. Dealer traced problem to a defective battery (the larger one) and replaced battery under warranty. No problems since.
Other then above I have found my Jaguar to be more reliable than previous BMW's, Audi's etc... For pure reliability I would stick with Lexus or Infiniti. My wife's Infiniti M35 is 11 years old with 102,000 miles on it and would you believe that it has never needed not even one repair? Just maintenance things like brakes, battery, belts, fluid changes etc. Good luck with your decision.
