3G Woes
So today I learned that Jaguar Land Rover reports that it has over 250,000 vehicles using the 3G networks that are going to begin shutting down in 2022. I assume that the loss of 3G could impact both the NAV and Phone systems in those affected vehicles.
I find that number pretty big for a niche manufacturer like JLR, and have to assume that our cars, built before 2015, will be impacted.
Guess I should start getting used to using Waze on my cel phone and doing without hands-free dialing.
Anybody have other thoughts/insights?

Do you have any source for this story and what models would be affected in particular?
I'm not sure how that would touch 'current' vehicles like the XF, as these don't have any cellular technology installed, at least not here in Europe as far as I know. Yes, you can couple your phone to the car, but as long as the phone is doing 4G or 5G you are all good. You can switch to a newer phone if yours only supports 3G.
Older cars like my 2000 XKR would be affected, because they have a built in Motorola phone.

There is a pretty good explanation at this link: http://www.thedrive.com/tech/43187/h...screw-your-car
it does make sense that some of the navigation items could be affected. Looking at the list of affected vehicles, even very recent models... the scope is vast.

I didn't think any of the X250 XF models had embedded phone / comms capability. My 2010 certainly doesn't. Phone is just Bluetooth to my actual phone. Nav is a static set of maps on a dvd drive (2012 onwards used a hard drive instead)
Think this is mostly an issue on 2016-19 vintage cars that may have used older 3G only technology for connectivity
Someone can confirm if the facelift 2012 onwards had 3G features. But at least the older XF models are in the clear.
