Check the wiring to the battery first- there is a thin wire to the monitoring system and if this is broken or worn it can cause the light.
is there suppose to be an inline fuse on that wire or is it just direct path to the positive terminal?

It's a fuselink which is a length of lead which melts if there is a short, but won't blow with a surge which of course an ordinary fuse would. I would give the wire a tug to check if it has failed or test with a meter.

The BMS will reset on it's own. It is not required to be reset when changing the battery. You can if you want to for sure.
See the first line from the attached service manual. It does it automatically from time to time.

New battery= calibrate bms
same battery= I would still calibrate bms
Replace bms= it will self calibrate, but I would still calibrate anyway just to be certain

thank you sir that would be what that hard bit in the line is then. I originally had thought the previous owner broke or cut that wire and soldered it back together but now see that's the section of lead
