bubbling dashboard on my XF

I will keep an eye on it and i guess if it lets go after the factory warranty expires I will take it off and find a shop to fix it. From what I have read the CPO warranty will not cover it.

I had my attorney send a letter to jaguar making it clear that their own select warranty does cover the dash as it only stipulates "normal wear and tear" as not covered. And unless someone drives with their feet on the dash, there is no normal wear and tear that would cause the dash to buckle. It's a known flaw that they didn't secure the leather properly. And the new replacement dashes have staples and glue.
They replaced mine free.
They replaced mine free.
The new wording excludes "Trim" items. Jaguar says that the entire dash is "Trim".
It happened to me.
I am just going to pull the dash this summer and have an upholstery shop re glue and then staple the edges.

2009 Jaguar XF Supercharged Dashboard Glare & Visibility Obstruction
It's a manufacturing defect and Jaguar should be forced to recall and repair. Nonsense. I just filed a safety complaint with the NTSB. My complaint is below and it included a picture, you should do the same.

My complaint.
2009 Jaguar XF Supercharged Dashboard Glare & Visibility Obstruction
The leather dashboard on my 2009 Jaguar XF Supercharged has begun to separate, ripple, & bubble. Resulting in a serious safety issue as the rippling (looks similar to waves) causes the sun to reflect / glare directly to the windshield & into the operators eyes. The result, under certain circumstance (high noon, very sunny days, dusk/dawn), is complete vision impairment.
The problem stems from a defective glue / bonding agent applied during the manufacturing process. Once separation begins it progresses and spreads like cancer.
The unacceptable repair estimate provided by Jaguar, $3,500.00 to $4,500.00, to replace the entire dash. Unnecessary as the defect is the bonding agent, not the hardware. Jaguar & official OEM forums suggest a... "cost effective alternative." The remedy via third parties: Remove the dashboard, separate the leather, clean, apply a new bonding agent, cure, and reinstall.
Because the dashboard is no longer flat, on sunny days & especially at dusk and dawn, the large bubbles & waves cause light to reflect directly to the windshield & the operators eyes. The resulting reflection / glare renders the vehicle completely unsafe to operate during the previously mentioned conditions.
Safety is important & Jaguar should address this issue via recall & not leave the costly remedy for this known defect to the consumer & potentially unqualified third party repair facilities. This known problem effects a majority of 2009-2011 XF models. Jaguar acknowledge the issue as early 2009. Yet continued to use a manufacturing process known to be defective. The known defect can cause temporary blindness while operating the vehicle. The consequences of driving while blind are obvious. Jaguar, should be required to remedy the defect.

ABALaw, that has to be one of the worst cases I've seen of the dash issue, That one takes the cake .
My center speaker grill is starting to pop up and show the glue surrounding it. The sun rays dried the plastic grille to potato chip brittleness so much that I'm contemplating working on it.

I've Seen A Lot Worse - But It's Awful - Still Love The Car

The leather pulling from the dash due to a subpar bonding agent (glue) & asking the consumer to pay for this known and preventable mistake is inexcusable. There are numerous complaints with the NTSB regarding the issue and the potential resulting safety issues. There are tons of complaints, and a few more will likely result in some sort of governmental action. But there are third party options. Apparently removing the dash, leather, cleaning, reapplying a proper bonding agent, and reinstalling only takes a few hours. The forum indicates a repair of only a few hundred dollars at third party upholstery shops. If the complaints don't work. I can live with a third party repair. It just boggles my mind that Jag could care less. Insane. But again, despite the one glaring defect. I love the car.
Thanks for the reply and good luck with your cat. Here are a few more pictures for entertainment and future reference.

That leather looks different than mine.
Is the stitching gone from the dash all-together? Mine has the double stitch where as I can see a faint pattern from the stitch on your dash leather.
I pretty much decided to make it a weekend project for the spring to take it all apart and bring it in to a local car upholstery shop after hearing the prices from some local Jag dealers.

I'm going to catch flak for this, but so be it.
Safety issue? C'mon.. really? Temporary blindness? Holy cow.
It's ugly, yes.
Should it be happening in a luxury brand (or any for that matter), no.
Even with that being the case, trying to get someone else to pay the bill by claiming that the light bouncing off the rippled leather causes blindness is, frankly, abuse of the system.
There. I said it.
If Jaguar wants to attract or retain customers, they should be addressing this. It was an issue with my car and I had it replaced under warranty. But having said that, my dealership goes to bat for me and worst case addresses issues like this themselves. They also sell Rolls, Bentley, Maserati, etc., so they know the caliber of service people expect when buying those brands.
If my warranty was up, or specifically did not cover the issue, I'd be pissed, but I'd get it fixed using my own research and selection of a partner company or specialist. I'd pay the bill and move on. Maybe with a Jag, maybe not.
We all make choices about warranty. For me and my family, we put value on having a warranty. We pay for new vehicles and usually sell them before the warranty is up. If you want guarantees, buy new and and then comprehensive extended warranty. If not, unfortunately you need to take your lumps and move on.
My two cents...

The funny thing about Jaguar not taking care of the 09-11 xf owners and our bonded leather wrap is that, coincidentally their facelift models 2012+ were fitted with staples... It really grinds my gears that they neglect the issue and then they add staples to the next model. For goodness sake I called jaguar USA in August 2015 told them my car had 40k mi and the dash was coming undone, that it seemed to be an issue for many owners. They said I didn't qualify for their program. I'm ready to print out this entire forum and take my car to the dealership so that they don't hit hit me with excuses.

I finally got some time to pull the dash out of my XF. I plan on attempting to lift the leather up and re-apply it. If it doesn't seem to be working I'll pay a upholstery shop to do it. The removal wasn't too bad. It took me a little over an hour. I snapped pictures of every step/bolt so the install wouldn't be difficult.
Also, I called around a few trim specialists, and was given crazy high quotes ($1500+) and told it won't look as good as factory. Who glued your dash?

Bubbling Dashboard, Crumbled Center Dash Grill and Flickering interior Lights
I sent a message out to the forum and i'm not sure if i did it right. I'm super disappointed with my vehicle in which i loved so much. I'm experiencing all of these issues not to mention how expensive the vehicle is. UGH!!! what can i do to get the dash fabric replaced or fixed. I took mines off but it's an eye sore right now i don't want to even drive it. I tried the glue thing no luck because the fabric shrunk. I drive my car down the highway and the interior lights flickers off and on UGH!!! My dream car is a nightmare now. SMH. Is anyone experiencing any of these. Where can i find the replacements. HELP

No great suggestion on the dash unfortunately. You need a leather experienced upholstery store. If it's really bad you may consider asking them to make a fresh skin for it.
The flickering light seems to be a well known issue. Search around the forum - I think some people changed the lamps to LEDs and that fixed it.

The dash is a common problem, if you do a search on the forum you'll see. but dont fear, do a little research and maybe you can find a mechanic that can fix it for cheap.
the overhead map lights are an EASY fix!! just replace with LEDs and you're done! i did it to my car, never flickered again.
