I think Dynamic is for suspension, and S mode is for the transmission.

There is an excellent overview in the manual.

Personally I enjoy S in auto mode on its own. Much more responsive and holds a gear longer on deceleration which gives me exhaust pops and engine braking.

Yes, I do feel a significant difference between the two. In S mode, shifts are held longer, throttle is more sensitive, engine revs at higher rpm, and you get rev match downshifts. In dynamic, the suspension is definitely stiffer. I have taken to driving in D and dymanic mode, when I want to conserve fuel and whenI do not want a more spirited driving experience. Try using dymanic alone, and then while keeping it in dynamic mode, engage S mode. You should notice the difference. If you go from S to dynamic, the change in suspension and steering feel is not as noticeable, but still evident.
