Default ECU Removal ?

I'm thinking about getting an ECU remap for my '09 XF SC from Singh Motorsports. Since they arent local i would have to yank the ECU and send it to them.. Can anyone tell me how to remove the ECU/how difficult a job it is, etc ?

I did see on their website that they can give instructions for removal.. I was just hoping someone here had done one already and could warn me of any 'gotchas'.. I think their remap claims ~20-40HP..
Also ordering a pulley upgrade as soon as I confirm that my guy can install it...

..exhaust goes in on Tuesday )

Exhaust is just for sound correct? No HP gain from cat back systems???

If it causes a failure then, yes. There are only a few months left (10) so I'm willing to take the risk.. Exhaust is being done Tuesday, pulley hopefully a week after that, ECU a week or two after that..

Exhaust will get a small gain. When I had exhaust put on my S there was a noticeable improvement in the mid-upper range acceleration.. But I get it for the sound

Hi Randy.
Since you are looking to do a pulley upgrade, you should really look for a place that will dyno your car before and after the pulley install.

An ECU remapping should be done according to the upgrades in your motor to really optimize the potential of the new components.

I would not recommend sending off your ECU to have someone do a 'general' flash upgrade. Ideally, an ECU remap should be done by a technician that understands what upgrades you have in your motor and also has your car there with him to do a dyno run to show you the results.

I only wish I knew someone in the area that I can refer you to. Sorry.

Thanks. I have reconsidered sending my ECU off to some stranger after finding a local place in Anahiem.. Now if only they would return my calls.

Glad to hear you say that.
Yeah, out in the Orange county area, there's a few garages out there that will tune using a dyno.

I wish there were more closer to me in the L.A. county area.

Anyway, I hope you can find someone reputable.
Keep us updated on your findings.

Which pulley size and brand did you go with? Was the install straight forward, or did you NEED their "special" tool? Is it noticeably faster w/o the ECU mapping?
Which exhaust did yiu go with? I'm looking at the Mina exhaust... Says it's just a lil louder then the fact sys, which is what im looking for.

I went with the upper pulley from Mina. I had my mechanic do the install. He had a "special" tool and it didnt work - he ended up having to cut the old pulley off. I do notice a difference in power and the few times i've 'got on it' i was a bit surprised and had to grab the steering wheel i bit firmer to hang on.. it's not a HUGE difference though.

The exhaust was all custom from a local Exhaust "artist" using Magaflow cans. It's noticeably louder but in a good way, and no 'crackling' with high-revs.

I think the whole thing, pulley+install was ~$500, and I can feel the difference, so, sure.. i'd do it again.

Randy, did you ever tune your ecu? I have been talking with Jag from Singh and plan on sending my ecu out to them next week after my pulley and exhaust go on.

Havnt done the ECU yet.. I was going to send it to Singh, but was a bit uncomfortable mailing it away. I found a local place, but they never answer the phone.. or reply to their emails.. or reply to voicemails.. I found another place but it's about a 2 hour drive - so right now i'm just waiting .. not sure for what..

Let me know how it works out with Singh (and how you get the ECU out) .. maybe i'll just go with them ..
