Default Finicky media player

I downloaded some mp3 files from Amazon that won't play in the Jag. They play fine on my Android phone, Windows PC and Mac laptop. The jump drive has 500mB of other music that I've loaded from various sources that plays fine. There's no evidence of any kind of protection that I can see. The screen displays the track titles but the play button gives me an "unavailable" error message. Am I missing something in the setup or the file creation?

I believe music files need to be in the CBR (constant bit rate) not the VBR (variable bit rate) format. Also for media files delivered via USB or MP3 players, the highest compression rate supported is 320 kbps according to my manual

Not exactly sure what to make of this, but I will be studying this weekend to find out how to tell, control, etc.

See Amazon music website. They say they try and use VBR (smaller file size) but have CBR on some tracks

So I'd suggest trying to find a CBR track under 256kbps and see if you can get it to play. If so, that's the issue

Alternative is to stream from your phone using a Bluetooth adaptor plugged into the USB port. Also let's you do Spotify etc too

Thanks again. I will check on Amazon for alternatives, and I'll look for an app to convert it if that's the problem.

It streams just fine from my phone.

If I get it to work I will post how.

BritCars - must thank you one more time for the insight. It was indeed the Amazon formatting that made the files unreadable to the Jag. I fumbled around Amazon's site to see if there was a way to specify the download format but couldn't find one. There are several converters from Variable to Constant but I chose to do it with my go-to audio manipulator Audacity. I'm sure my way was more laborious - one track at a time at about a minute - but I'm comfortable with Audacity's accuracy and safety. I have other Amazon music files on the same drive that play OK so I would have been a long time suspecting the format.

Love this Jaguar, but have to admit the electronics are behind. My geek son just bought one and I'm preparing for a rant during Christmas dinner. My plan is to tell him "Just shut up and drive."
