I was checking over my 2012 XF NA Portfolio in preparation for our trip to Canmore, Alberta next week. I decided to check the idler pulleys on the accessory drive belt. All looked well until i checked the water pump pulley which had play on it but no obvious leak---I have not added coolant for the past 3 years. Car has 56k kms or 35k miles on the clock. I replaced the pump today and found evidence of very minor leakage at the shaft drain and play in all directions on the shaft. I have to fill with new coolant and pressure test tomorrow.
2012 XF NA Portfolio means it's the AJ133 V8 5.0 and NA not SC.
In all Jags except the XK that engine was replaced by the AJ126 V6 in mid 2012 so Six Rotors has one of the last ones ever installed at the factory.
I have attached the best picture I could take. You can see two things---a patch of wet coolant that drained out after removal and an area of dried up coolant and dirt which accumulated over the years. the drain hole is almost obscured with dried dirt and coolant.
Can anyone explain why my 2012 XF 5.0L NA came with a 200kpa( 28.5psi approx ) pressure cap yet a similar age XK150 with a 5.0L NA and SC came with a 140kpa (20psi ) pressure caps ( according to the Jaguar Service Manual ) ?
Finished this replacement today. The first pic shows the parts I replaced---water pump( by GMB), water pipe to engine oil cooler ( used an aluminum one with Jaguar seals) and water pipe from water pump to header tank. I had to replace the plastic connector on the water pump with a brass fitting but I retained the original factory routing because I did not have the new design water pipe. The second pic shows a second pressure test on the cooling system---per the recommendations at 15psi.
Note factory gaskets installed without sealant and the flanges were clean except for minor bits of paint from gaskets which were easily removed. a small piece of the plastic elbow was left in the brass fitting on wp outlet.
Leaving for Calgary next Thursday so hopefully all will be well. I have new plastic front cross pipe, thermostat and rear heater pipe but I may wait until I get aluminum ones ---a winter project. replaced Bits plastic elbow failed NO LEAKS
