Default Front parking sensor aid

New portfolio question...sometimes it just works automatically and sometimes it doesn't unless i push the button first. is it supposed to stay on unless turned off? am i doing something that is unintentionally disengaging the system? thanks

I have an 09 so this could be different but my front parking aid will only come on if either I push the button while in D or I reverse first (engaging the camera and rear aids) and then put it in drive. The car disengages once you reach a certain speed. I would guess it would be around 5 km's.

now that i think about it i guess that makes sense. you wouldn't want it to come on every time you roll up to a car in traffic. still, weird to push a button for the front sensor....

I have a 2010 XF Portfolio. I love the car but I find the parking sensors irritating the way they work. When you put the car in reverse both front and rear sensors are active. When I park facing an object such as a wall or railing and I put the car in reverse, the front sensors sound. This is confusing because I am trying to back out of a space and am not sure if something is behind me. I wish I could change the system so only the rears activate when in reverse and both activate when I press the switch in the overhead console. Anyone know if this is possible?

I don't think that's possible, as you want the front sensors to be active even when you reverse, as if your turn your steering wheel and swing too wide in the fron you can hit another car or pillar, etc. The front sensors should get quiet once you back out a few feet though, don't they do this on your car?

Yes it does stop after I move backwards. The problem is that I need to be sure there is nothing behind me before I start to move. I just feel from my perspective I wish it didn't activate the fronts unless I specifically want them.

My '11 works as described and is correct. If you want the front off when in reverse, hit the button. Blaydes is correct about the having them on in reverse. I back into a parking space in a garage with columns on one side every day. Having them on is the safer setting to avoid a collision with objects, people, animals, etc.
