Halogen bulbs vs. HID
Thinking about upgrading my halogens to HID. Would there be more battery drainage from HIDs? I was looking at 4000 or 6000 kelvin. Also, the installer said that if I upgraded to the HID, I would not be able to use the "auto" headlamp feature. Something with the voltage would drop too much and they could flicker. Has anybody upgraded or have any helpful suggestions?
No effect on battery as the current will come from the alternator. I think HID also draw less current than halogens.
I cannot see how the type of bulb could affect the Auto headlight function. The activation is from an optical sensor and current draw or voltage at the lights is irrelevant. Don't know this for sure but the installer should explain to you how this can be.

The difference should be like night and day for a HID vs Halogens. HID are a go no go system. If you have the right voltage the unit turns on if not they don't work. I suggest you take a look at ddm tuning. Cheap kits that work great.
