Hey, I'm quite new to this site so I didn't know where to post for help but I thought this would do. Anyways, I have a Jaguar XF 2008 and on the instrument section, it says 'Boot is open'. The boot is certainly not open but it keeps saying this. I think, because of this, I can't unlock the doors. I tried manually locking the door but only one side of the car is locked; the other is unlocked. Furthermore, is there any way to charge the smart key, because it keeps saying battery is low. Or do I have to replace it? Please someone help me, I would appreciate it very, very much.

Sorry, I accidently put 'I can't unlock the doors'. I meant I can't lock the doors.

 

Does the car beep when you walk away? Is there any chance you have left a spare key fob in the car? Just a thought as my car does not allow itself to be locked if the key fob is in it.

 

Hi - and welcome to the Forum (I think you're a new member?)

Firstly, if it is saying that the smart key battery is low, I'd start by fixing that. It could easily be the reason that the doors won't lock. You need to pull the chrome plastic ovals off the two sides of the key-fob and it will open up. Replace the small flat battery inside and put it back together. The low battery warning should be gone. Now try using the key - range and consistency should be a lot better and hopefully that might help your doors to lock.

Secondly on the 'boot is open' message. Could be a couple of things. Firstly the boot could actually be open - try slamming it harder and seeing if that clears it. Mine has always been hard to close although dealer has looked and said it's correctly adjusted. Secondly the sensor to detect when it's closed could be misaligned or broken (not sure how it detects on this model - someone else might know). Third possible issue could be a break in one of the wires in the hinge of the boot lid - quite common.

But I'd start with the battery in the key fob and see if that helps.

The Smart Key is not rechargeable but the internal batteries are replaceable.



CR2032 batteries are widely available and there is no need to go to a Jaguar dealer for them.
