HELP: Is it possible to put diesel in my XF with a jerry can?
Hi,
I've just recently purchased a Jaguar XF R-sport (black edition) and stupidly it's not been refueled and don't think I'll make it to a fuel garage.
I have got diesel in a jerry can and also have a funnel but it does not seem to let me put the fuel in this way
There seems to be a sort of metal cover in the fuel tank hole that does not open when we push the funnel or jerry can nozzle in
Am I being dumb here or missing something or can you literally only refill fuel with a fuel pump at the fuel station?
Many thanks for any advice

I definitely wouldn't put diesel in a gas car. Go buy another gas can and use premium. Or did I completely misread the question and your car is diesel and you're having difficulties? If the latter, sorry.

I read it that his car is a diesel, but the spout on the only funnel he has won't fit down the throat of the filler hole.
I think it is likely that attempting to shove the funnel spout down the filler hole has triggered the anti-misfuelling device (a flap in the filler tube which closes over).
If so, you can reset that flap using the special tool in the boot. It's a funny looking yellow thing attached to the battery tie down rod.
If that is the problem, then once you reset the flap and the only spout you have is too wide (and will just trigger the flap again), then you'll have to try adding some diesel slowly and gently without inserting the spout very far at all.
