Looking at a UK 2013 XFR SC with 60k, what do I need to know?!
Hi all,
I'm looking at a UK 2013 XFR SC with 60k ish miles, what do I need to know?
Sounds like it'll have probably needed a water pump change and I need to keep an ear out for rattling timing chain tensioners.
Any other thoughts? Sounds like there is a wealth of experience here so hopefully I can avoid any obvious problems.
Any constructive feedback would be much appreciated!
All the best,
Barry M

How is the service history? Well looked after? That counts more than anything else
Have a thorough inspection done professionally to make sure
Water pump will have been done by now if an issue - but they can go a second time. Not hard to swap. Look out for electric gremlins. And at some point cooling system plastic will start to go brittle
But mine is a 2010 XF 5.0 SC with about 65k miles on it and it still runs daily without a single issue. By far the most reliable car I've ever had. Had it 6+ years now, bought used, and it has been a delight
Check the wheels are balanced and round / the big wheel sizes bend easily

- worn/rattling SC coupler/torsion isolator
- all the plastic hoses and pipes in the coolant system which start to split and crack at this age
- failed door lock solenoids especially on the driver's door, very common on all older XFs
- knackered brake pads and/or rotors, the OEM XF pads and rotors wear out quickly especially on the XFR
- tyre tread condition and wear, the XFR chews through them fairly quickly if you drive in a "spirited" (coff) fashion
- tyre brand and type, not uncommon for a seller to swap out the pre-existing knackered tyres for a set of cheap new Linglong Ditchfinders. You do not want them on an XFR and you really want/need quality tyres like the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S.
All good stuff thanks to all for the input folks...
I'm currently just sounding out the market and getting ready for a purchase early on in the new year.
Can anyone recommend a good Jaguar specialist for maintenance in the North West of England UK?
I have Preston Jag Centre just down the road and they appear to have an XFR in for work at the moment.
My local garage that I use at the moment also does a lot of high end car work including for the local Jaguar dealer.
Anything else that comes to.mind would be much appreciated.
Many thanks
