Thought I would have a look over lunch, and took the engine cover off...I think I could cry...
As you look at the V6 engine from the front, the right hand side (passenger as you look at the car) part of the V6 has some oil on top!!!
Picture below, feel heartbroken, is this just a seal or is it something more serious...can't bear the thought of losing Blowers (yes we named our jag after TMS legend Henry Blofeld, My dear old thing)...
The other side, near the oil filler is bone dry...
I feel an eye watering bill coming on....
Any suggestions? XFR? F-Pace? lol
I think I need a lie down, and some body armour before I break whatever the news is to the wife :-/
Looks to me like a cracked cam cover, not uncommon on the 3.0 diesel.
The oil leaking/blowing out in and by itself won't cause error messages or DCTs or RP, but the lack of pressure will.
Check your oil level, it may be a bit low.
Thoroughly clean the oil off everything, have someone start the motor and warm it up, then look along the cam cover with a torch for a hairline crack oozing a little oil.
It may or may not be apparent, sometimes these cracks are very thin and only leak when the engine is under a fair bit of pressure.
Just had a look and there is actually a technical bulletin from Jag over this, and it has been into a dealer a couple of times over the last few years, so going to see if they will cover this as it is a known issue.
If anyone has the same issue it is Defect JTB00422
Right, lets see what I can get out of the dealer, as some people have been quoted £1800 for it to be replaced... gulp

Hi
Unfortunately it is a new replacement cover, which sounds simple, except as it is a direct injection, all the injectors need removing etc... I got mine done by a local independent Jag specialist, and it cost me just under £1000, it is not the best job to do, and time consuming.
I wish I had the other side done at the same time, as that then deveolped the same fault, and due to pressure new valve in teh turbo that time.
Jaguar offered sweet FA to me, even though itis a known issue and there is a technical bulleting for it.
I also went to a dealer who said i had to have smoke tests done, you don't simply take the oil cap off so you can remove the plastic cover, wipe any oil on the top of the covers clear, replace oil cap, get some one to start the car, and rev it reasonably hard and you should see a little mist of oil come out where the hairline split is.
