Maps, needing some info...
Hi guys,
I have not long had my 2013 XF and am needing a bit of advice about the navigation maps.
First of all, the car came with a CD box with Here Maps, Jaguar Gen2.1 HDD Europe 2016.
I am presuming it has been installed.
Is there a way of telling if it has, can this be updated without extra cost or maybe it keeps itself updated?
Is this much different to the standard Jag navigation system, aside from the Europe part?
Secondly, I am used to navigating with my android phone which shows traffic buildup which I found very useful. My Jag navigation doesn't show this.
Is this because of the Here maps installed or is this just not a feature with Jag navigation in general.
I know it does keep an eye on traffic as I have found it re-routing me if heavy traffic is ahead on my journey.
In general do people find the Jag navigation very good ie always finding the best route or is it only the best route using more main roads?

Mu understanding is that CDs were not used after 2011 models. Instead they used USBs to load navigation software to an SSD(HDD). Your box should have USB stick in it . There is a later update available. you check for yourself at www.here.navigation.com

It does say in the purchase info that there is a USB stick but it isn't there now.
I have seen the latest update but I would need to purchase this which is why I was thinking about going back to the standard Jag software which from my understanding, can be updated for free.
I suppose I was just wanting to know what people thought of the standard Jag software for navigating.
Yes---I just bought the latest update for North America from Here maps. For me it was worth the cost---I do not own a cell phone. My regular cars have Mazda factory nav systems which came with 3years of updates. I do have a Garmin with lifetime updates which I use in cars without navigation but I really don't like having it stuck on the windshield with wires hanging over the dash.
The. OE satnav is pretty pants + the updates are so old by the time they're released. The traffic updating & rerouting option is so slow it 's useless.
Many people use Google maps on their phone. I prefer my Tomtom, others use Garmin.

I think I read somewhere that you can install an Android system to the car. I will have to find out if that is just for multimedia or whether that could include maps as well.
Do you know if Jagdroid can use Google navigation?
Jagdroid looks a good option, the only downfall I can see is having to send them your screen and cd player...
Has anyone any experience of the Jaguar Remote Apps? Do any of these allow for screen mirroring so I can have navigation on my phone and mirror to the Jag touchscreen?

With the Android screen install any Android app can be used including Waze. Just be aware that it will requite a SIM card and another account to activate it. If you just tether your phone to the Android screen then you can run off the SIM that's in your phone.

So does that mean I can use Google maps by tethering my phone to the Jag screen?
Well with the Android screen you can because you can install any Android App. If you mirror your phone screen it will show up on the in dash Android screen. But you need to find an APP that will do this.
If you have the stock Jaguar screen then no.
This is a good explanation of what you need to install and what it does.

That's a shame...
The other thing I noticed was that my phone GPS doesn't work in the car. It seems to conflict with the car using GPS.
Maybe I can turn off the car GPS if I go back to using my phone navigation.
