Maybe Moving Over to Jaguar
My wife has been a loyal Jag person since 1984 and I've been GM all the way. I recently visited our local dealership for a service appointment and noticed a '09 Supercharged XF on the lot... it is a Select Certified car with 20k on the clock. Long story short, I'm currently driving an '04 CTS-V which is rated at 400 hp plus a couple of bolt-on mods and have truly enjoyed driving it over the years... is the XF S/C comparable in performance... I know the amenities blow my Caddy out of the water. Also, what's the difference between the XFR compared to the S/C model... suspension, hp etc...? The warranty is also beginning to lure me in as it has 4 years left....
Road & Track did this very comparison, but with the 2010 XFR which is faster than the SC but against the 2009 CTS V which is much more powerful than yours. They also compared the manual shift Caddy to the automatic Jag and, surprise surprise, found the Caddy to be quicker, but not by very much. I bet the auto transmission Caddy is slower than the Jaguar if only because ZF makes better transmissions than GM does. The Caddy is also much cheaper (and ought to be). R & T thought the Caddy to be superior regardless of price, which is a bit odd really since the Jaguar is demonstrably superior in every way except straight line acceleration. The other differences are explained by the expensive Michelin PS2 on the Caddy and the cheaper and nastier Dunlops on the Jaguar. Put Pirellis on the Jaguar and then see which is quicker and stops and turns better.
The ride is also much better in the Jaguar and all other performance characteristics are essentially equal. In my books that makes the Jaguar the hands down winner.
The Caddy is also breathtakingly ugly, but that is of course in the eye of the beholder. I'd have to wear sunglasses, even at night, just to get into my Caddy, if I bought one.

I saw some vids on the comparison after posting this yesterday and see the XFR neck and neck with the '09 CTS-V... and that seemed to happen at the start. I agree with your thoughts on looks... I just happen to be a GM guy who has a pursuasive wife... or persistant... lol. I do admit, the XF S/C is a good looking car... alright... better looking than my V
I'm going to test drive it hopefully Monday and if numbers can be agreed upon I may be bringing it home... The problem is getting to the right number. I know what I want for my car, what I will be willing to pay for the Jag, and above all... what size of check I'm willing to write in the end... Haggling is such a pain in the ***
Thanks for the links and thoughts... it's hard to let go of something a sentimental as a car... The V has been fun and good for me over the years and it's coming up in value due to the knuckleheads who own them who are butchering and beating them to death. They only made a little under 2500 units the first year and I think there must be less than half left that haven't been beat... Decisions, decisions

Torque figures are 413 lb ft for the 4.2 SC and 461 lb ft for the 2010 XFR. The 2010 SC puts out 424 lb ft. It is the torque that results in acceleration. However, the newer 5.0 engine is tuned for peak torque at a much lower 2,500 rpm as compared to the 4.2 peak at 4,000 rpm. The real info needed is the torque curve which is not readily available.

Actually, the auto V Caddie is a hair quicker then its manual counterpart.

Same testers? Each tester may use a different method.
Then again, anything over about 300hp and an automatic is tough to beat. The new dual clutch automatics are routinely quicker than any manually shifted version, including a manually shifted double clutch gearbox.

It's done!!! I brought my new XF home last night and all I can say is WOW...
The car has all of what my V had but without the rough ride and loudness from outside noise... How nice to be able to shift manually or drive effortless using auto. Unfortunately I'm having a medical procedure today and not able to get pics but I'll post some in a few days, once I'm on my feet... Finally, quoting my wife... "I've converted you"... lol
Time to dump LS1 Tech and become a more active member of the Jaguar Forum community...

Technically not supposed to drive for 48 hours but my wife went to work and the car is just sitting there... just saying... lol Now comes the mod bug...
is it better to keep things rather stock or is a performance exhaust, CAI, pulley a must?
Thanks for the responses

congrats on the new addition! Can't help you on mods, as I'm not proficient in this model, but I too have been considering a 4-door addition to my current xk8, and the XF is at the top of my list. I have a feeling I'll be experiencing the same in the future. Subscribed to your thread to see the pics when you get a chance!
Never knew there were so many longer ways to go home... Here's some pics of the newest member of the family.... I'm loving this car... and I thought my CTS-V was badass...
Thanks... My V was fun and served its purpose but as the years go by having to shift becomes a chore (to some) and I've been driving a manual shift vehicle since 2003. The V came after a Jeep Wrangler (also manual) so the V8 power combined with the option to ride out the gears was exhilarating.
With the XF I can still ride out the gears and find 3rd and 4th to be way more fun than the rest... Next step is to tint the windows a bit... maybe 50% to add more uniform color to the car (the added privacy doesn't hurt either) and to keep the UV off the interior. This time I'm thinking on the lines of keeping it stock (at least for the first year... haha) because it's nice not to gather the attention of everyone at most every light wanting to race... this happens when you combine a performance exhaust cold air intake etc. with an aggressive marketing campaign by GM. It was nice before this year with my V because no one really knew what the car was... Now I get looks with the car but it's not from every "tuner" car guy out there wanting to race... lol
get used to getting looks, sir! XF is a terrific-looking vehicle. While Gen I CTS-Vs are not what I'd call ugly and I actually like the looks of Gen II CTS-Vs, but come on, Jaguar is in a completely different league in terms of sheer aestetical pleasure
Just thought I'd post some more photos after getting the windows tinted... a must for a black car. Man... what a blast to drive... the main thing I've noticed is that traffic seems to be slowing down
Beautiful XF SC! I bought my XF Prem in black with matching tint. May have missed it in a previous post but what color is the interior?
Thats one of the many unique things about this vehicle, you don't see any! You also get to experience people who admire a a truly beautiful vehicle.
