Multi-Point Inspection & water pump (2014)
For many years, my dealer has been filling out a Multi-Point Inspection form whenever I’ve gotten service. I feel kind of dumb that I just accidentally found out they’ll do the inspection free whenever I want. Car was due for state inspection, so I scheduled an “inspection”. When I went to pick it up, they had to run it back into the shop for the sticker, thinking I meant Multi-Point. A 7500 mile oil change is almost a year for me, and the dealer is only a mile away, so I plan to take advantage of this. Also, I check my tires about every 6 weeks, kind of a PITA crawling on knees and wrestling with the compressor hose. Service advisor says he keeps an air tank by his desk just for that purpose, stop by anytime.
Of course, the Multi-Point inspection is a way the dealer can stir up warranty and other work, and this trip was no exception. They replaced the water pump (warranty, 17,500 miles), said it was starting to leak. Also, they found a badly bent cross member at the rear axle (and some animal parts) from when I ran over a deer last December. They don’t know how they missed it at last service, but that earned them around $350.
