Default Purchasing Advice- 2010 Jaguar XF Luxury

Hello,

I am brand new to the forum and just want to say hello as well as ask a few questions. I am seriously considering purchasing a 2010 Jaguar XF with the Luxury Package and 66k miles. It is a 2 owner vehicle that was sold and serviced by the Jaguar dealership that is currently selling it. It appears to be very well taken care of with no blemishes and a host of previous service records. As part of their "premium" multi-point inspection they determined that they are going to replace the water pump and one of the belts. My question to all of the seasoned veterans on this forum is how reliable is this model year XF? I know that the '09 model year had a few issues being the first year of production for the XF and am hoping the 2010 had numerous improvements. Is there anything I should look for in particular on this Jag? I have never owned a Jaguar before and am hoping that this XF is a joy not only to drive, but to own for years to come. Sorry for the long winded post everyone, I'm new here I have also attached the CarFax report so that you can see the service history. Thanks in advance for any and all help!

I was looking at buying a 2009/2010 a couple of years ago. However, I am glad I waited and got a 2012 instead. In my opinion the front ends just look so much cleaner.

Seems like a pretty solid ride by its Car Fax, just warranty it as much as you can, and that applies to ANY year XF. I don't see that the Water pump has ever been changed, a known problem area. As been said newer = more $$$, if you're just UN sure have it inspected before you buy.

Get a 2012 or newer. Fewer problems, newer look of the front end, and the 5.0 V8 makes it well worth the extra cost. There are a lot of lease backs available currently with LOW miles. Just spend some time looking. Whatever you end up getting, get the extended warranty.

I have an 2011, but pretty similar to 2010. Water pump replacement (replaced), broken clips in the headliner of sunroof (replaced), creaking steering column when auto adjusting on entry (lubed twice). All repaired under warranty. I have 23k miles. That''s about it. I think there may be some issues with differential on 09, or 10's. If you can swing a '12 or higher I think they are better in a number of areas including seats, feel of controls and fit and finish. I think Jag is a good as BMW , Audio or Mercedes in general. Fit and finish improved in 2012 and on and this unrealiable reputation is undeserved.

Fewer problems? I don't know about that, reading this forum it seems like the 5.0 has it's own set of problems. I think the final few years of the AJ8 4.2 saw some pretty bulletproof engines.

I think that aside it comes down to which snout do you prefer?

I sell you my CPO Premium Lux 5.0L (got my eye on a new XF). Perfect shape, still has 25k or until 5/2017 left on the Jag Select Warrenty.

Make you a hell of a deal and includes a winter set of wheels/tires (only one season on them).

The 2010 Luxury package should come with the 5.0 V8? I think it is 2009s and the 2010 base model that had the 4.2 - rest of 2010 and onwards was the 5.0 newer engine. So not sure there is really that much difference btw a 2010 and a 2012 model mechanically. Some cosmetic changes (redesigned front end and a little on the rear) which most people (myself included) feel were an improvement. And new infotainment that's meant to be a lot smoother. But most of the rest of the car is the same. So in my opinion the main differences are visual improvements and then age and mileage. 2010 with 66k miles is pretty reasonable - as others have said if you are worried about repair costs then extended warranty is an option. But there is a pretty substantial sticker difference between a 2010 and a 2012 model...

2010 base Lux model was 4.2. The premium lux is a 5.0. In 11 you could not get the 4.2 anymore.

OK - always confusing when the base model is called luxury! So if the OP is looking at a 4.2L model, then I agree that there is a pretty material difference. Personally I'd still consider a 2010 with the 5L V8 and decide whether the 2012 is worth the extra money depending on how tight the budget is. But I probably wouldn't buy one of the older 4.2L models.
