So, yesterday when heading home after work, a big red Battery Not Charging message appears on my dash. Hurried over to the shop I use and they test and only see 11.5V. Time for a new alternator, leave the car over night.m This morning the shop owner calls and tells me that he has received a new alternator and will have the job done early this afternoon.
Then he tells that the Jaguar Dealer wanted $1,055 for a replacement, but when he removed the old he found that it was a standard DENSO unit with a JAGUAR mark. He called his non-dealer supplier and obtained an exact replacement (missing JAGUAR) on the label for $578.14.
Bottom Line, when you need a new one get the DENSO one ...

Let us know how it works?
Jaguars are picky about electrical stuff. We have had people replace the alternator only to get dash lights even when it's charging fine. Several people have recommended getting your original rebuilt if possible to hopefully prevent such problems.

So far, so good. My mechanic believes it was a direct replacement, with the same DESCO part number.

Jaguar - making mechanics out of customers since 1935
I did the same thing last October, no problems at all.
I had an X Type a while back and one of the O rings for the variable intake servos was leaking, Jaguar wanted $50 for a new one. The servo had a FOMOCO part # so I went to the Ford dealer and got on for $4.
Probably could have gone to the Hardware store and paid 40 cents
