Default New Jag owner - few questions

Hi,

Well I am the proud owner of a Jaguar XF v6 3.0 diesel, wow what a car. 2011 and 72k on the clock with a full service history with lots of receipts. Seems the car was very well looked after. (Although it has a couple of minor scratches).

I have a couple of questions:

1. On the latest service receipt it mentions that the front bumper is "Not fully aligned". Admittedly I didn't see this until after the purchase as its a line item on the latest service receipt with about 20 other things on it. (Such as new pads, tyre etc etc). Now I fully inspected the car on purchase for anything that I would deem as misaligned and even now closely scrutinizing the bumper I see nothing.

Anyone else with a history of a "misaligned front bumper"?

2. How long would I expect brake pads and brake discs to last? I tend not to brake hard apart from the odd occasion where I may have some fun.

3. I am having the windscreen replaced as well. There was a tiny little crack out of sight near the top of the window and the dealer I bought the car from agreed to replace it at their cost before I bought it. The company is visiting my home to replace it. Anything I need to be wary of? etc. I once had the windscreen replaced on a car and then the heated windscreen stopped working so I got them back to replace it again.

I think thats about it for now.

Many thanks in advance and happy to be a member of the Jaguar club.

Never heard of "misaligned front bumper" before, possibly it's the bonnet misaligned instead where it meets the bumper across the front and on top of the lights. Have a good look at the gaps along the front of the bonnet and maybe fiddle with the two bonnet "stoppers" - black hex shaped things that you can turn to raise or lower.
OEM XF brakes and discs wear quite quickly for a number of reasons - both the pads and the discs are relatively soft, it's a heavy car, it has an auto gearbox, and the "anti-dive" system puts added pressure on the rear brakes so they tend to wear out faster than the front brakes, the opposite of historical brake wear patterns. Most find that the discs will last for two sets of pads before they need replacing, but then again many dealers will (falsely) claim that the discs should be renewed every time the pads are renewed.
New pads should last around 20,000 miles and new discs around 40,000 miles with reasonably gentle driving. However the pad wear sensors are set to trigger when the respective pad is approx 4 mm thick, so plenty of meat left still, and the specified disc minimum thickness (regardless of brake specs) is only 2 mm less than new thickness, so again plenty of meat left, ie very wide safety margins on both.
Also the OEM pads are incredibly dusty and if/when you get new pads consider getting ceramics which are very low dust.
Can't help with the windscreen though.

Agree with all the above re brakes

On windscreen, pretty straightforward and it's done all the time. Just check the rain sensor for the windscreen wipers still works afterwards - irritating if they don't refit it properly

I assume you didn't have a heated screen, but if you did then the same there too
