i need to order another key for my XFR. I am trying to avoid purchasing it from a dealer. but i know i need to go to them for programming.

what kind of damage am i looking at for all of this? can I get a key off ebay and have them do reprogramming?

also, there's a locksmith that claims he can do key + reprogramming, but i havent been able to get in touch with him. should I avoid?

 

Well the one I bought off Ebay couldn't be reprogrammed to a different vehicle, they marry to the original vehicle for life is what I was told. My car only came with 1 so I bought a new one $250 and the dealer programmed both to the new and old to new codes for $50 or $300 total. As far as your locksmith? Well with the dealer you do have some recourse should you have issues.. Please read below ↓↓↓↓ in red..lol

 

thanks. i read in other threads the same about the "marry" but also read people buying on ebay and being able to successfully reprogram.

 

I bought a new blank from somewhere in China off ebay. The first place sent me one for a Honda; and after three tries, still couldn't understand that yes, I did want one for a Jaguar as originally requested - so I had ebay dump them. The second place sent me one that worked electronically, but would not fit into the dock under the dash - I kept it anyway. I do know that, even with paying to have a dealer program it, it was tons cheaper than getting everything through a dealer. I had to have a locksmith cut the metal blank, but that wasn't too expensive either.
