Default Newbie with a question on the 2012 5.0 Litre XF

Hello everyone. I've been lurking here for a few weeks gleaning some great info on the Jag XF. I've found one I like with 78,000km or 48,000 miles on it. As it idles it seems to have loud injectors, but what concerns me if the engine almost has a rattle at idle as well. Once the rpm is up it smooths out and runs quietly.

I've read a few threads that say some of the 5.0 engines have timing chain issues at low mileage. It doesn't make sense to me that a modern V8 would experience a problem like that at only 48K miles.

How has your personal experience been with your car?
Are there any owners with high miler cars that have been trouble
Free?

Your feedback and comments will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Drake

both of my XF's have had louder than average injection noise. I t is hard to distinguish between the direct injection or timing chain. I have always gotten extended warranties....better to pay an extra $150 a month than get stuck with a $15,000 bill if your engine blows. I normally only kep my cars a few years though. If you are planning for long term, then maybe have a good shop take a look at it before you buy. Good luck and welcome

Welcome to the forum Drake,

If you're planning on sticking around (and I get the idea it more 'when' than 'if' as far the the XF purchase is concerned), please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

Welcome Drake,
My 2012 XF has extremely low mileage, (less than 9K miles) and it does have noisy (rattily sound?) Injectors at idle. Others on this forum have said that this is normal,
but as Cherry_560SEL suggested, a pre purchase inspection by a reputable shop would be well worth the investment.

Definitely get it checked by someone who really knows what they are taking about

I assume this is a 5.0 naturally aspirated, not the supercharged? The SC ones can have a rattle due to the supercharger which indicates an impending issue

Definitely worth the peace of mind of an inspection. Would also ask for a 30 or 60 day guarantee to ensure no hidden issues...
