Am I the only one that likes the headlights on the '08 to '11 XF? The new ones are great, especially with the addition of those blinding DRL's, but I think the previous incarnation had a ton of character.

Maybe I'm just biased.

You're not alone. The earlier iteration makes a nice transition between the now classic XJ6 hood shape, repeated in the X Type and, to a minor extent, the S type and the new design language introduced in. The new XJ. To that extent it was deliberate I think.

The newest shape completes the change to the design language from what is now the outdated classic XJ6 look to the brand new Jaguar future.

I like this transitional look. Before I bought my XF I parked it up next to my '02 XType and was amazed at how the older styling features were all present in the new shape but updated to be completely modern looking.

For that reason I like the first XF. However, I also really like the direction Callum is taking Jaguar design. Jaguar is resuming its traditional role as an industry trend setter with the new XJ and XF. Wait for the production C-X16 for the complete picture, to be followed by the new XK series which will refresh that look as well. Baby Jaguar sedan to complete the product range and we should see Jaguar really take off.

I think the transitioning was intentional. I seem to recall reading Callum explaining that they didn't want to make too big a leap from past to present at first. That is why, for example, the pre-'12 cars had the J-A-G-U-A-R script across the chrome accent piece at the rear, to help the public with the association of the name with the newer style leaping cat, but the '12 does not have the script and just has a plain chrome piece to let the leaping cat logo do all the talking.
