Default Overfilled Coolant Expansion Tank

The JLR mechanic overfilled my coolant expansion tank when fixing my coolant leak issue. Some of my plastic coolant pipes have failed due to brittleness overtime. I had to tow my car in twice to the dealership. The last time I towed it in i replaced a bunch more pipes since they had lifted the intake manifold to access it.

When putting it all together they filled it too high. Maybe it had coolant in the engine or air in the pipes. On a cold engine check the level is pretty much to the top of the tank. I opened the cap on a cold engine and you could see the coolant almost reaching the top maybe 2-3 inch until the top.

Should I be worried? Should I take it to the dealership? Should I just drive normally and the cars excess coolant vent system will take care of it ?

When I opened the cap it was a release of air noise event though it was a cold overnight engine.

The dealership that did my supercharger coupler did the same thing. When I questioned it, they said it was because the system continues to self bleed and that the level would drop over time. They preferred that over the coolant dropping below the normal range. Not saying I agree with their explanation, just what they told me.

i dont think you need to be worried. i dont think it will cause any issues, but i also have no idea what i am talking about.

worst case you can always use an eye dropper of some sort to pull liquid out of the tank

Nothing to worry about. Seen it before and will not cause any issue. As long as its not to the very top of the cap you;re good.

Empty it out to the correct level. If they say it has to self bleed they are giving you a line.

If they didn’t “vacuum fill” the system or didn’t manually bleed the system with the bleed valves, it won’t self bleed so that’s a bs line.

System should have a certain amount of room for expansion with heat, so lower it to the correct level with a turkey baster or some other method.

I doubt it is a real problem, but if it worries you get a $3 turkey baster at WalMart and suck some out.

the tank needs open air due to pressure in the system if it doesnt have any where to escape it will crack the tank again
