Default Overheating

My 5.0l XF overheats when I am stopped in a drive through line for more that five minutes. The outside temperature is between 80 and 89 degrees farenheit outside. Is this normal. I don't hear the fans kick on until the car gives me the overheat indicator on the dash. Is there any way to get the radiator fans to kick on earlier? Or is something seriously wrong? I don't lose fluid when it gets to the overheat mode. But you can smell that it is getting hot.

I had almost the exact same symptoms as you in my car. I would get engine temp warnings and overheating issues in traffic and I was also having issues with my A/C not blowing cold, and sometimes not blowing.

Mine ended up being a couple of issues. They had to replace the thermostat that was causing the overheat issue and they also replaced the a/c blower motor. Luckily I got a 6 month warranty with my car because I believe it was close to $3000 for the dealer to repair everything.

I do have a thermostat on order. So I will try that first. I don't have a Jag dealer nearby. So I will try that first and then look elsewhere to see what else might be the matter.

Thanks for your response.

Anytime. I actually had my thermostat replaced on my first trip and it solved the overheating issue but the spurratic a/c kept being an issue for a couple of days after so we went and did the blower motor. Hopefully your thermostat is causing your a/c issues and once you replace it the a/c will go back to normal.
