Default Jaguar XF Split Intake manifolds!

Hi everyone, I've been surding the forums due to a restricted preformance issue I suffered a month ago on my 2011 jaguar XF, after running a diagnosgic test on it i found 2 fault codes. P006 & P1247, my jaguar PDF manual indicated that both those faukt codes togther meant a loss of boost pressure on bi-turbo mode bank 2! ( passenger side basically) after hunting for a split pipe and failing to locate any issues i handed the car over to Marshall Jaguar of Oxford, formally Ridgeway Jaguar, after a couple of days they emailed me a fault sheet indicating both inlet manifolds were split and that it would cost almost £3000 to replace, similar story to alot of people on these forums, my concerns are that the car has only just reached the 100k mark, its barely 7 years old! Its a premium luxury car costing over 40k new and that a car like this should not be suffering major engine componant failiure at this kind of mileage, german manufactures lile audi and bmw pride thierselves on thier engines just being "run in" at that kind of mileage. So i feel annoyed and let down by jaguar especially with my car being 6 weeks out of warranty i bought the car from them as a "used approved" model.
With a baby on the way and refusing to fork out the 3k i have successfully replaced them myself it wasnt too bad a job i did need an injector puller costing my £50 and the manifold costing £220 each. A few days ago jaguar offered to reduce the bill to 2k which i still feel is unacceptable, in my eyes these parts are defective and itbshould have been part of a recall or something like that! Im in the middle.of writting a report containing all the known cases of split manifolds in jag and landrover and would be grateful for any advise you can give, is there a Jag techical bulletin stating the defect? Ive heard there is but cannot find it! Have the part numbers chnaged? I have the old manifolds and the new part numbers on the box but am unable to see them on the units themselves. Basically i dont want jaguar getting away with this like they have done on so many occasions so i need as much advise as possible to rock the boat. BBC watchdog have been pre notified of this and im hoping Jaguar will give answers if i can get enough facts that this is a known defect!
thanks in advance.

kind regards

Morning Mark

Well drving back from the Isle of Wight last weekend had Restricted performance warning come up. Dropped the car in to Wiltshire Jaguar on Tuesday. That afternoon Paul phoned back and advised that the left hand inlet manifold had cracked and was the cause of the restricted performance. Now the car is under warranty by The Warranty Group. So i Paul gave them a ring they have told him that it is life expired. I challenged this so the following day they sent an independant assessor out he wrote a report stating the part had come to the end of its life after 7 years.

So spoke with Jaguar HQ their not interested as the car wasn't purchased through dealer and not under their warranty. Now comtemplating seeking Advice through Trade Union Solictor.

Wiltshire Jaguar in Swindon are replacing it for £879 Highly recommend them if your looking for a good independant.

Kind regards

Default Jaguar XF Split Intake manifolds!

Mark,
Thanks for the info, i am currently pursueing a claim with the finacial ombudsman with regards to this, i havnt bot heard anything back as of yet.
Jaguar customer services were useless and not interested at all. The dealer has offeres me £300 to go quietly and not pursue this case any more. And since then i have actually replaced both manifilds myself, it wasnt too big a job although i am a Airforce Mechanic by trade, i just needed to purchase an injectier puller. The whole job cost me about £500 for both manifolds and the tool in total. It is a big job but once youve done it once it doesnt seem too bad.
I still dont believe these parts should be lifed! Its not a cam belt or a brake disc that are designed to wear out in time, its a major engine compnant!! No different from the head gasket, the block, its a camer/slash inlet manifold and it should not be lifed. I think this is some kind of excuse to hid the fact the parts are defective. If they really are lifed, then why have they changed the design and replaced thenold manifold with a new part number?
i have contaced BBC watch dog and i hope owner owners do the same. Customers should not have to bare the cost when poor build quality and defective parts cause your car to fail. These are expensive cars, premuim/ luxury saloons not your adverage car which at the mintue seems to be the more reliable and Jaguar customers deserve better.
i really hope you manage to get your car sorted soon. And just be aware that if one manifold is leaking the other might be on its way out aswell.

Thanks for replying to my post.

Kind regards mark

Default Another case of the dreaded restricted performance 😭

Fault codes P006A-00, P1247-00, P00BF-07, hope it’s not N/S manifold crack this time. Had the O/S done at 105k. This takes the biscuit. What poor design engineering. Anyone had any luck with ombudsman / BBC watch dog? This problem has been reported on here many times. Main dealer should be doing the right thing and recalling this issue. ( and yes they don’t want to know, 100k is too old to guarantee durability / reliability apparently. Didn’t know cars where manufactured to last like washing machines. To be scrapped after 5 years max

Nicko, sorry to hear you are having more issues, i suspect the other has cracked also but thats only talking from my experience, one of mune had failed but the other also had a hairline crack so woukd of failed very soon hence replacing both!
i would submit ypur claim to the ombudsman along with contacting bbc watchdog the more people that do this the more likely soneone will act on it. I am still waiting for a reply with regards to my report.
in the meantime find yourself a good local garage who are more than capable of repair, im not jag specialist and i did it on my drive so any decent garage should be capable! Good luck and if you require any further help just ask!

kind regards mark

Hi,

Ref: XF 2012 (facelift) 3.0D . Had for 4 years...

I am new to this and any sort of forums I must add, however, I felt compelled to add my experience with exactly the same issue as above. In June 2017 I was towing my caravan on the M6 to Glastonbury and the dreaded Restricted Performance Light came on for the first time. To cut a long story short it cost me a huge sum to get it towed back and to hire a vehicle to continue with my trip!

After returning I had the vehicle looked at by my local garage who informed me after numerous trips that it was an issue with the airflow, mass airflow, split tubes... 1 week and £300 later the Restricted Performance light appears again. Further checks are done and then finally they find a crack in the inlet manifold, which I am then quoted £1000 to fix!

I contacted my Local Jaguar Centre, as it's literally 3 months out of warranty and nothing they can do to support... an absolute Joke, but I wasn't going to leave it there. I swallow the £1000 to get it fixed with my local independent garage as need a vehicle for work, etc.

After weeks of liaising with Jaguar Customer services it was finally agreed that I shouldn't of been told there was nothing they could do and they should of assisted with the issue. However the most they could offer me was a measly free service. After further arguing my case I reluctantly accepted as they couldn't offer any further help as I had it fixed independently!

Now here's where it gets massively frustrating...

Last month (September) 15 months after the initial issue the Restricted Performance Light has come on again, £150 do diagnose after numerous tests... then smoke tested and my local garage have confirmed that there is again a crack in the new Jaguar Inlet Manifold. £1000 to fix!!

Surely I can't be expected to pay for this again? £2450 in 15 months is a bitter pill to swallow and my love for my XF is rapidly draining.

I have contacted Jag again, awaiting a response, but thought I would let you know my issue too if it helps with your case!

If anyone has any further advice I'd hugely appreciate it?

So I see you already have a thread going about this with lots of good info, but does anyone have a schematic of the intercooler tubes and sensor locations?

Intermittent: P006A > MAP - Mass or Volume Air Flow Correlation. code here on a V6D-S 2014..

Default Fao mark hicks - see you did the repair yourself

Returning from Orkney to Edinburgh area at new year I had real issues with the "restricted performance" alarm.

ok if I took it really carefully, but even trying to maintain speed up a slight incline caused the restricted mode to engage, stopping for 5 mins or so and it resets, but there are a lot of inclines in the Scottish Highlands! The A9 is not a forgiving Road!

once home I find it is the P006A and P00BF error codes, reseting these, on short trips it's the P006A code which returns

i guess it is the inlet manifolds that are the issue - I notice that at least one person has done it themselves, I have no issue doing it myself, but would be more comfortable if someone has a description of what the steps are - obviously a full detailed photo driven write up would be fantastic, but just a simple overview would help.

I guess it would be remove the covers etc for access, remove the injectors , remove / replace the manifold (Does it come with all seals/gaskets?), reinsert the injectors, replace all covers...

is that about it?

Default Jaguar XJ 2012 3.0D Injector inlet manifold cracked - temporary fix

I made a temporary repair using a piece of strong belt sander paper and epoxy resin.

I used JB Weld - strong, but it has a cure time of 24 hours.

Remove the oil filler cap. Pull off the engine cover.

Clean off the oil thoroughly, dry, glue on the patch. (So far, 9 months/8000 miles of running with this temp fix)

Looks like I've got the same issue with the inlet manifold. I've got a hairline fissure on the left one and it's only visible under heavy load (punching the gas above 2.5 to 3K rpm). I seem to be looking at around 800 Euro to fix the thing.

Do you happen to know the part code of the left inlet manifold for the 2013 XF 3.0d?

Went to a shop today and the guys suggest a weld. Should I consider something like that because it's a fraction of the cost and they say it will hold. Did anyone attempt something like that?

I patched over my crack, so far so good. Cost less than a tenner. Plastic weld is worth trying in my opinion.

Hi John, is this repair still holding up? Did you rough the plastic surface up to give it something to key to?

The repair held up for around 9 months, but eventually went again. I paid jaguar £1600 and had the manifold replaced. If I hadn't intended keeping the car for 2+ more years, I would have traded it in to Jaguar with the temporary repair in-situ.

Thanks for the reply John. I might give repairing mine (UK drivers side) and then replace it if it fails again.
Does anyone have a write up? Manual? Or description ? Doesn't look a difficult job but sounds like I would need to purchase injector pullers.
Cheers!

Default OIl lieak while revving engine - cracked inlet manifold/cam cover - videos

We have just had the same problem - I used the excellent photos in the thread above etc to locate the fault - here are 2 videos where you can see the oil leaking from the passenger side (nearside) cam cover I thought this might be helpful to others

  1. Does anybody do an aftermarket part (metal, not plastic) - I searched but could not find anything.
  2. Any good independent Jaguar workshops near Great Missenden in Buckinghamshire that someone could recommend for the job?

Appreciate anyone's help on this.

I drilled the ends of the crack (to stop it developing further) and plastic welded mine with a hot soldering gun. I also added some filler using a black cable tie (most are nylon 66 material same as the cover) . I also cut some fine stainless steel gauze and again heated this with the iron and pressed it until it submerged into the plastic and was impregnated.
I expect it will hold just fine but could split somewhere else.
I unfortunately didn't get a photo on completion. It didn't look great, but it will be strong.

Deano - great work - looks like a clever solution - I like the idea of first drilling the ends of the cracks to avoid it propagating further - very clever.
I have some photos of my cracked manifold below - was amazed how thin the crack was. I had to look for quite a while to find it - a long thin crack along the corner - hope you can see it in the photos - if not email me and I will send you full res.
I am sure your fix will work. I have kept the old part just in case. If it goes again may need it.
Did you remove yours Deano to fix it, or do the fix in situ?

Default od flow Meyer error

Hey Hey ,
I have some questions about jaguar xd 3.0d 2011. because i have problem with popup RP. the error I am showing is the air flow meter, so I dismantled everything and cleaned it thoroughly. after restarting, the error was gone, and so every time I turn off the engine and wait for some time, the error disappears, but returns after some time after driving a few or a dozen kilometers.
unfortunately mechanics. my neighborhood can't help me.
I read on the jaguar forum full of good opinions that you are helpful, maybe you already had a similar case and suggest what I could check.
Greetings from Poland.
