smell coming from electric heated windshield
i get a weird smell when i turn on my electric heated windshield, not necessarily a burning smell. but something fragrant. hard to explain.
should i be worried its burning something?

I would always investigate any odd smells when using electrical accessories.
Assuming it's not as simple as something coating the inside of the windscreen (e.g. a cleaning product) giving off an odour as it warms, the next obvious thought has to be an overheating relay.
The Owner's Handbook for the 2011 XF gives this less than helpful advice:
Note: Jaguar recommend that owners do not remove or replace relays. It is recommended that you seek qualified assistance in the event of a relay failure.
It then gives no information on either locations or functions of the various vehicle relays.
The electrical schematics in the Workshop Manual show two relays (separate for L and R sides) in the Engine Junction Box.
Both the front and rear screen heaters switch off automatically after a timed period depending on the ambient temperature. It's possible the temperature sensing is faulty and the front are staying ON too long.
