Default Start Control Unit.

My Start Control Unit is faulty, will not hold my key, i asked dealer tech if i can just replace it on my own, the tech said i will have to bring it in for programming. I'm not sure if th his is true, i believed dealership just want to scare me and make money. I removed an old one from my other jaguar, see pictures. Please advice if its true.

tollypopo,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to X250 forum. This is the place to post technical questions about your model.

It would help greatly to know what kind of vehicle you are talking about. In general terms of how the Jaguar systems work is the the module key and the security locking and control module all need to talk. They do the via an RF chip and if they all don't match up your car will not only not start but set the security system too attempted theft mode and disable the vehicle until it goes to a dealer.
The dealer isn't trying to scam you or con you. It has to be programmed and without dealer level software ( some indies have that) it will not work.
