Has anyone ever tried these .. Obviously I have the sticky buttons and I cleaned them up for the most part but I'm sure it will happen again since I live in Florida. So I was considering these .
I had these on my car for awhile. The thing that annoyed me was from the drivers seating position angle, the symbols openings didn't always show thru the full lighting from the button...from front on they work ok but that's cool for the middle passenger in the back seat.
Another annoyance when fitted, the buttons don't always give a perfect gap between them so be extra careful when applying them over the existing one to ensure the gaps are even.
In the end, I replaced the (menu & av units) affected by the stickiness and use now use nutregena solution to keep them feel of gunk build-up
They are a cheap way to avoid looking at the yucky sticky buttons in the end.
I would be concerned that the decals would not stay stuck for very long unless you first completely removed 100% of the gummy residue. I just spent probably 9-10 hours total (a little at a time) with the makeup remover towelettes, swabs, dental picks and various hand-fashioned tools carefully removing 100% of the soft-touch coating. Now they feel like hard plastic Toyota buttons which is perfectly fine, but still look like Jaguar buttons. I've used button decals for other car restorations, which looked better than the 30+ year old worn away icons and lettering. I think these decal/covers sold online are probably an excellent solution for owners whose buttons are already beyond help from high mileage, jewelry, sun exposure, etc. (or if one just wanted to go mid-evil on them with acetone and be done in half an hour.) But you CAN eliminate the sticky permanently if you just keep at it with the makeup remover for a few more hours and you'll get down to the plastic.
Yea I may just try to clean them up ..but I do like the look of the silver buttons though, but from what I've seen and read online it seems like alcohol is the best to clean the buttons as long as your careful
The stickiness does NOT come back if removed properly. This problem is caused by the "textured" coating that was applied at the factory. Once this coating is gone you are left with the normal hard black plastic buttons. This is a problem for many high and not so high end cars. The Ferrari problems had a good bit of press because of the absurdly high repair cost.
Again with all the experience we have with this problem use what works! Neutrogena makeup remover.
Yes I did not believe it at first either but then I used them and it worked WAY better than anything else I had read about.
