Default Summer Tires

Almost time to replace my OEM Continentals on my 2013 XF 3.0SC. The original tires have 34k on the clock and are nearing the end of their life.

Since I live in AZ, I can get by with high performance summer tires 24/7. I am looking at the Michelin Pilot Super Sports, but wondering if there is a tire that offers similar performance for less money, or if the Michelins are worth the cost of admission? On the plus side, the Pilots do come with a treadlife warranty; something not too many tire manufacturers even offer anymore.

I'm in the same boat. 34k barely passed inspection... but I need all season here in New England.

I actually just came across the Nitto NT555 G2. High performance and attractive price. Will have to look into them

I just replaced the Dunlop SP SportMaxx OE tires, only 20K miles with Sumitomo HTR Z III. So far so good, good price as well.

I have the Bridgestone S-04's and love them. Another member I know has had the PSS and the S-04'S and said the Michelins were better, but not worth the difference.

On the F-Type the new Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S is all the rage, by all reports it's another step up from the PSS. And if you are lucky you might be able to get them for less than the PSS, depends on sizes and supplier.

I think the Pilot Sport 4S is the winner. Costco running a special right now on Michelins. Looking at ~$1,150 out the door for 4 new shoes with road hazard warranty

I have the Michelin Pilot Super Sports on both my XF's and they have been a nightmare with sidewall bubbling. They ride and handle nice, but they are a defective tire. Very disappointing from a top tier brand.

Recently replaced my Conti's with the Super Sports...very happy. The SuperSports have better traction new/vs new conti's. I had to adjust my driving habits as they would grip on turns from stop...and I became accustomed to a little more tire spin back there! Whiplash now....

Yep, great driving tires, but get ready for the sidewall bubbles and the tire company blaming you for a common defect in their product. They don't take long to form, so you won't have to wait too much longer. Keep an eye on the inside sidewalls.

Have run Michelin PSS for many years on several different vehicles, probably on my fourth or fifth set now, with no sidewall bubbles. Not that one, or even four or five sets, constitutes a statistically significant sample size...

You may not have noticed them because they were on the inside, or you may have been lucky. Many have not been lucky:

My first tires that came on the car when I bought it used were Mich AS3+'s. They were dangerous. 500 treadwear and they would throw you into a ditch under full throttle with DSC off at any speed under 80mph. Next I put PSS's on the rear. They were great and stuck very well but I was hoping for a good tire that could stick well for a lower cost of entry than Pilot Super Sports. I took a chance with Hankook Ventus V12 Evo 2's for 1/2 the price. They are great all around. My 0- 60 is 4.1 compared to 4.0 w the PSS's but I have only done a few runs with the new tires so I'm confident I can duplicate my prevoius best of 4.0.

You can get them for around $750 and Hankook has a $100 off 4 rebate that ends 5/31. I bought mine from amazon for $744 and had the rebate in about 3 weeks. $644 total and i don't miss the PSS's at all.

I've heard the V2 Hankooks are better than the originals, which were on my car when I bought it. They rode well, but the handling - the way they set up in a turn, and the traction were not up to par. Glad to hear they are improved now.

Had the new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S installed this morning. Initial reaction is the corner is noticeably better as is the road noise. Will report back after I'd have some more drive time.
