Question Thinking of upgrading audio, thoughts?

HI guys and gals,

Newbie owner here of a 2011 XF Premium with the base 320W system. Went to a local shop, as I feel, while adequate, the system is lacking a little in both bass and some great sound coming at me in the front. I'm looking to keep the factory sub and rear speakers. Fronts to be swapped out and replaced with Hybrid Audio Clarus Stage IV components. Will keep factory amp to run just the rears. Components and sub woofer to be driven by an Alpine PDX-F4 amplifier. Should be able to get good audiophile like sound for under $1500. Any experience with the Hybrid Audio speakers anybody?

Thoughts on the setup?

Thanks!

No clue on the Hybrid Audio components but I'd just disconnect the factory sub. It will be a limitation for you in so many ways. I'd also think about getting an Audio Control LC2i to give you more control over how the rolloff on bass from the head unit occurs. You should also consider getting a 75-100w 2 channel amp for the components and a mono amp for the sub.

I built a box for a 12 in the spare tire well and mounted everything in there. I have the B&W system and I'm satisfied with what it delivers with the additions. Do a search and you'll find photos, a how to for wiring, etc.

Default keeping it stock if possible

Hey Kyanite,

Sounds good, saw your install and it looks great. My preference is to keep the stock look, which is easy to do inside the cabin. I would like to keep the spare tire as well as the jack, etc. I will have to look into getting a box made to accommodate a different sub, while keeping everything else stock. install seems to be pretty straight forward, the only exception being the remote turn on. i would have to look that up. If i can get the right box, i could install everything myself. it's just been a long time since i installed anything myself!

That's another reason to get the Audio Control, possibly an LC7i because of the front channels you'll be using. It also gives you remote turn on and a much higher signal level for better sound.

I looked at a review of the components and respected publications gave them good reviews. So they should be good for you.
