Default Tracking the build

Hi,
My XF is being custom built, but my dealer is rather sparse with info.
I would imagine once the car is actually assembled and hence has a VIN it could be tracked form then on. anybody have experience with this?
Thx,
Hans

Yes, the dealer has the capability to track a build. Mine let me know when the build date was scheduled, when it was scheduled to leave the UK, the scheduled arrival date at US port, and the scheduled arrival at the dealer. This is all available from the dealer's computers and my dealer would check it every so often to see if the scheduling changed.

All Jaguars are sold before manufacturing commences. The manufacture of every car is monitored by the factory computers. That's how the parts are ordered and delivered. Cars can be built to any spec, including colour, in any order because the whole production line is controlled by computers. the spec sheet is bar coded and stuck to the front bumper of each unit as soon as there is a bumper to stick it to. The interior is assembled separately as are the doors once painted. only computer control could bring those parts together at the right time for final assembly. If you are ever in Birmingham (UK, Not Alabama) I highly recommend the free factory tour. It is amazing to watch the cars being built.
