Winter tires are your friend. I'm in MA not too far from you and I have a 2010 XF SC with rear wheel drive. I drive it year round incl in the winter extensively. It can get slightly tail happy in snow as it's RWD but with winter tires still drives well in the snow

The AWD is of course much better in snow but I'd still suggest winter tires

I have the 2015 3.0 V6 SC , bought it in Denver at the height of winter.Has Conti DWS Extreme Contact tires, AWD was excellent on light to moderate snow, never drove it in heavy snow but overall it was great. Now back in California and even thought the Conti's are "all season" tires they are impressive when the urge strikes to get spirited. I would buy them again. On the highway the car has no equal, the ride and handling are superb. In Dynamic mode you can have all the fun you want, though the AWD makes it harder to break the tail loose.

As for the overall impression of the XF, I can't fault anything but the somewhat tame exhaust note and the absurd lack of even electronic water temp, oil and ammeter gauges built into the display and of course the silly lack of a real dipstick. It would have cost very little to build these vital instruments into a screen on the display and who knows how many ruined engines could have been avoided? I use an app on my phone to monitor things which helps, but still. The excessive amount of plastic in the cooling system is something that bears watching, but owning a Jaguar has always demanded a bit more engagement from the driver than other cars, that's not a bad thing. Everything I know about wrenching on cars I learned on my Dad's Jags over the years, it was a good education and has served me well.

The XF is a high water mark for sporting sedans, very comfortable and a delight to be in and drive. Mine has been trouble free so far and a delightful car to own and enjoy. I see very few on the road, and it never fails to draw admiring glances from others, I would buy another in a heartbeat though the newer 2016 styling leaves me cold.

Enjoy!
