I was looking under my car the other day and I noticed this thing on the rear differential. is it the actuator? I've tried looking for it in google images and on parts websites but haven't found what it is yet. Nothing wrong with the car, it just got my curiosity peaked.

I wondered that as well, but the exploded parts diagrams show it coming in from the side on all the ones I looked at. Maybe they use a generic drawing for all their differentials. I didn't notice any wires going to it though. Hard to see the front of it if you are as hefty as I am.
