Default Wheel nuts on 2010 XF

Dear all, this may have been covered elsewhere, but I've not been able to find anything that answers this question directly. I've just collected my first Jaguar, a 2010 XF, and, doing a check of less obvious things, I find that the wheel nuts, though I've measured them at 19mm and I'm using a 19mm socket, don't seem to be gripped very well by the socket. Am I doing something wrong? Or do I need a more specialist tool? I've put no force on it, so caused no damage, but I'm a bit concerned.

Thank you.

Are you using 12pt or 6pt socket? If 12pt forget it.

Thanks for replying.
Hexagonal, six points. I found, subsequent to my initial posting, that I could get the socket onto the nut, but it was very difficult to get it off again!

That seems to be the consensus! That's what i'll do, afterall, i've no idea of what's been done to them before I got the car.

The nut inside under the chrome cover can rust. It expands when it does and makes the chrome cover a bit bigger than before. And hard to get socket on it.
As above - replace the nuts! If you don't buy jag ones, ensure that the specs and size are the same. Some look similar but the end is longer meaning the metal washer doesn't tighten down hard on the wheel.

Congrats on the car!!!

Once I've found out what the actual specs. Thread, length etc are, I'll do so.
Thanks for the welcome, I hope that the car is as good as I'd hoped.

So far I've found these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/184934247...53.m1438.l2649 which look like the same, with covers, so I'm not keen on them, these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/322551270...53.m1438.l2649 which say that they fit a Jaguar, and these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/141904387...53.m1438.l2649 which look similar, and finally these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/362087641...53.m1438.l2649 To me, the only difference appears to be the price, but I'm sure that one the experts here, for whose expertise I am very grateful, can tell the difference! Any preference?
Thanks
Peter

Thank you, that's really very helpful! What I'll need to find are Jaguar style, identical factory fit in size, that aren't capped.

Don't you need to purchase the correct size tires for your car?? Why would lug nuts be any different??

What he means is yes you need to purchase the correct size lug nuts. No they are not ALL the wrong size. Only the one in his example. Hundreds of Jaguar owners have replaced these sorry capped lug nuts. You should too!

Here is a quick search with 213 threads about lug nuts. Take a look and make your own INFORMED decision.

Thank you for the link. I'll have a look. At least I know what the dimensions are that I'm looking for.

Had this same problem this afternoon on my 2012 XF. Went to my local Discount Tire since I needed to have my tires balanced and rotated anyways. They had replacements. They were not exact matches (chrome and longer) but they were 1 piece so no cap, which I think will be better. Had them all replaced so I won't have to worry about this in the future. (pic attached. new ones are on the left).

+1

Bought nuts from Ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/tech_world_direct, and there are 100% the right size.
Specifications
Thread size: M12 x 1.5
Thread depth (inside nut): 38mm
Overall nut width: 30mm
Overall nut height: 39mm (inc head & shank)
Shank width: 18.5mm
Shank depth: 9mm
Seat type: Flat
Material: Toughened steel
Finish: Chrome plated
Spanner size: 19mm Hex
Our stock code: 20L

Similar to OP, 4 nuts out of 20 were "distorted"., I guess due to mechanics over torquing them with air gun.
