Run the engine to allow circulation, let stand for 15mins, turn on ignition & recheck.

Done that, but it still reads add 1lt! I assume it's stuck=gummed up or something and needs to be removed for a clean. If no luck then, I'll have to get a new sender I suppose. I can at least check the quantity of oil by draining and refilling whilst doing it.

I think the most the system can tell you to add is 1lt so even if you were say 3lts short, it would only say add 1lt. i would add another litre, run the engine, leave & test again. If your worried about the amount of oil in the engine drain it out & measure, that will give you a true picture.

That is my plan.

Note: Overfilling oil capasity can be very dangerous for Diesel engine.
- Microbubles. If the level of oil in pan reach rotating crakshatf an microbubbles will form on oil and this will cause drastic loss of lubricant of heavy stress of connecting rod big end bearings.
- Exxes oil in cylinders. Can cause very high combustion pressure up to the point of damaging head or bending connection rods
- Engine run-away. Diesel engine can run with bare engine oil in certain conditions. Turning ignition off will not shut engine down. (in this case disconnect intake pipe from aircleaner box and block the intake with some hard plate or exsample thick floormat etc. Donīt use rags etc what could be suck in the engine)
My recommendation is drop all oil out and start over. (engine oils are not so expensive comparing risks...)
