XFR Gearbox Failure

Hi all,

Looks like my run of luck with my XFR has come to an end, just at the time when I was thinking of selling up. I have discovered there is massive lateral play on the output shaft of the gearbox, which is allowing the prop to move around loads, and bang about. Additionally the gearbox end of the prop is getting really hot while driving, and all the oil has boiled out of the rear gearbox mount. So for want of a better phrase, it's bust! I suspect the 2 bearings that support the output shaft have failed.

I am trying to explore all options to keep the XFR going, but in the back of my mind I do know it's 13 years old and it's done 130,000 miles. I approached a nearby ZF certified specialist who will do a drive-in drive-out gearbox rebuild with a warranty for £3-4k. I don't believe just replacing the rear bearings is an option for me, as I suspect the output shaft will be damaged/worn from the collapse of the rear bearings. and that can only be fitted in from inside the box, so to repair what I have is not a DIY job.
I could get a gearbox from a breaker but can't find any with acceptable mileage and service history.

Anyone ever had an output shaft failure on one of these before? Any advice on other options I could explore?

Cheers!
