Default new to jags

Hi everyone, I'm new to jags and am currently looking at an xj6 4.0sport 95 m reg! Is there any things to specifically look for i've heard the engines are great! what about the gearboxes?? etc etc also would appreciate honest mpg figures (town mainly) I've been living with a c180 merc for two years which only gets about 20-22 mpg is this possible with an xj6?? can manage with a bit less but if it's regular 15's then i might have to rethink things many thanks neil

Go to the "FAQ/Quick Link" topic at the top of this section and peek at the buyer's guide.

I get about 12-13 mpg in city driving and 20-23 mpg on the highway with my XJR...which is more thirsty than the standard model. Add 20% to those figures for your larger UK gallons.

Cheers
DD

Mine's a daily driver, 1/2 around town, 1/2 highway, and I consistently get 19.5 MPG.

Daily driver, nearly a year's worth of fuel data and over 1,200 (US) gallons burned:
Total fuel
1295.9 / 1254.6
(gallons- Act/ind respectively)

Act Avg 20.5
Ind Avg 21.1
Act Max 24.1
Ind Max 23.7
Act Min 18.1
Ind Min 18.7
(mpg)
"Act" is mileage computed from actual fill-up quantity and elapsed miles
"Ind" (indicated) is data from the on-board computer at time of fill.

"Max" occurred on cross-country trip, maybe 95% highway.
Daily usage is probably 70/30 highway/stop-n-go

minimum was in January, 2010 when we had a very cold snap (for here, anyway) in the teens (deg F) and I believe the thermostat was stuck open at the time which will contribute to rich running.

+1 on Doug's advice to consult the sticky's. A bit of time in the Search function will return buying-advice / reliability info dividends as well. There were 3 or 4 threads running around Oct-Dec of 2010 that had good stuff in them.

Good luck, welcome to the forum, and keep us posted how you proceed.
